Announcing Top Photo Spots!
Oh man am I excited to do this post! Today I'm announcing the beta launch of my new website Top Photo Spots
over at http://top-photo-spots.com
So what is Top Photo Spots? It's a website I created to solve my own problem: Finding the absolute best places to take photos when traveling somewhere new. It's a website designed to take the guesswork out of travel photography.
There are sites out there already like TripAdvisor that are geared toward tourists and let you read through reviews of people who have been to the attractions at certain places, but TPS is geared toward photographers and photographers alone.
There are apps out there that aggregate spots from Flickr like Stuck On Earth. SoE is a great app that I use often, but for the most part it's just providing GPS coordinates and an example image, and you have to do the research to find that spot amongst a fair amount of garbage photos that subsequently get pulled in from Flickr.
So how is Top Photo Spots different? Well, TPS is going to be about quality over quantity. It will take us a while to cover all the continents and countries/states/cities/parks therein. But rest assured that when TPS adds spots to a location; they will be in-depth, high quality and informative. Each spot will have pinpoint GPS coordinates embedded into a custom Google Map. You can launch the Google Map full screen, access street view and and even get directions. Each spot will also include everything you need to know about that particular spot. Things like how to get there, things to consider, best time of year and day to shoot, camera settings needed for more advanced shots, etc. Each location will also give tips on where to stay as well.
So that's a brief rundown of the site. It's been custom built and designed by my developer and we've put in a lot of hours to get it to this stage. We've also got a few contributors going already and I'll be sharing their spots and locations over the coming days and weeks and months. So let's recap what TPS is...
-A place for photographers to find the best spots for photos at locations around the world like national parks, state parks, cities, towns, attractions and more.
-In-depth insights into those spots like when to visit, what time of day is best to photograph, gear needed, things to avoid and more.
-Pinpoint, exact GPS coordinates for each spot displayed in a beautiful, custom Google Map.What else will you be able to find at TPS?
-Regular photo tip articles like 5 Creative Ways To Use A Fisheye Lens.
-Video interviews with photographers around the world.
-Reviews of relevant products to use in the field.
-A store front that will grow over time, featuring products geared toward travel photographers.
-Much more to come! What I need from you!
-I need you to help me spread the word and create buzz. I'd be so grateful if you would share about the site on your social media channels like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, your blog, etc.
-If you have a way of doing an announcement/review of TPS on some of the larger photography sites, that would be amazing!
-I want to know if this is something you are excited about, if it's something you can't wait to use when you travel.
-I need to know if you encounter bugs or broken links.
-I need your feedback. Please email me by replying to this newsletter and let me know your thoughts. Do you have ideas for making the site better? Did you find something that needs fixed? Do you think this will help photographers make the most out of their travels? #photography
