This decision by Google has angered me and makes me wonder if Gmail, my other favorite Google service, is next? I've already found a replacement for iGoogle. The thing most valuable to me was embedding my Google Bookmarks, so now I use a Chrome plugin for that. And Chrome plugins for other bits I had on my iGoogle home page. Unfortunately that doesn't carry over to my iPad version of Chrome, though.
My allegiance to Google has greatly decreased because of their iGoogle decision. For the first time, I now look for alternatives to Google services. I have embraced Google Drive, but with Dropbox doubling their space, I am seriously considering going back to Dropbox. I'm also considering alternatives to Google Docs. And I'm even wondering about Chrome. I do love it, but with Google being so fickle, how long will it be before they kill off Chrome?
I believe the decision to dump iGoogle, while seeming innocuous, is a profoundly bad move on Google's part and has set in motion consequences they never intended. This decision by Google reminds me of the Netflix debacle from last year.
