At senior level I was in-charge of Reform Action Group created under the aegis of World Bank to suggest ways and means of improving the Power Sector of the State of Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Floating Islands of Lake Titacaca
#strange   #island   #lake

Lake Titicaca - World's highest commercially navigable and  South America's largest lake (by volume) is home to Uru people (aka Uros), a pre-Incan people, who live on small man-made floating islands on the Peruvian side of the lake.

The islands or rather the islets are made of thick (1-2 metres) layers of totora reeds - an indigenous reed which grows in abundance in the marshy shores of the lake.

* Endeavour*
#googlemaps #googleearth   #puzzle

Can you find Space Shuttle Endeavour in 360Cities view in Google Earth? If yes, please visit Fun and Games section of New Google Earth Community Forums  (http://googleearthcommunity.proboards.com/thread/1359/endeavour) and post your answer there. Clues and answer will also be posted in that Forum.

Fun & Games section of Google Earth Community Forums is a fun place to post mystery locations and/or  pose riddles about events and places from around the World. This forum provides a stimulus to brain and keeps the grey cells active specially for old retired people like me. I strongly recommend this for those who have time and penchant for solving puzzles, but a word of warning – it is highly addictive. Finding the answer is 90% perspiration (research) and 10% inspiration but it is pure 100% joy and sense of exhilaration.
360Cities view in Google Earth. Please don't post view from browser but post slightly different view from GE. The image placemarker may not be visible in 360Cities layer (red square) of Photos

The Dome of The Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosques on the Temple Mount, Jerusalem.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered as the third holiest mosque in Isalm. In the early years of Islam, Muslims used to offer prayers in the direction of Al Aqsa Mosque. Later as per the Quranic revelations, the prayer direction was changed towrds Holy Kaaba, Makkah.

A beautiful flower shop on Monte Athos, Mexico City. The image in Google Maps is itself very good and I have just cleaned it up and processed it with water-colour pencil and enhanced the colours.

This is a digitally enhanced/modified Google Inside View. The original GSV is at https://goo.gl/maps/kLsoV.

Hong Kong is full of high rise buildings. I have tried to create here an almost 360 degree prespective of apartment blocks on the Tide Cove shoreline.

A House For Bibliophiles
#strange   #architecture   #booklover   #italy

La Casa di Libri (House of Books), a quaint little thematic house in Italy, is a book lover's dream come true.

The design of entire house and its interior including the furniture revolves around books. The walls look like stack of books, the roof is an open book lying face down, the gate is in the shape of pair of reading glasses, the gateposts are like cap of a pen, the fence looks like pencils and to top it the chimney is shaped like a fountain pen with cap removed.
