How open film project Cosmos Laundromat made Blender better - Opensource.com features an article by Jason van Gumster on the importance of the Gooseberry project for Blender. Jason writes: (...) Roughly one year later, the production is complete. According to Ton Roosendaal, who helms both the Blender Institute and Blender Foundation, the production costs weighed in at just under 400,000 euros. This paid for everything, [...]

Giant shoutout to the hero of Overpass, +Andy Fitzsimon (and Delve Withrington, obviously ;).

"The great thing about our corporate font being open source, is that we get to watch it grow beyond the walls of our business.  Designers will use it for unique and wonderful purposes, some shocking to trained typographers – and that's okay.  It's a tool for everyone."

+Andy Fitzsimon  talks about Overpass, new free/libre font family released by Red Hat and made by Dele Fonts.

Website: http://overpassfont.org/

GitHub: https://github.com/andyfitz/overpass
Red Hat announced the release of Overpass, their own highway gothic font family designed by Delve Fonts. Overpass is available under terms of SIL Open Font License.

Being seen as a "drone guy" feels very much like being a "computer person" in the 90s...

Enjoyed some great answers by Chris Anderson, CEO of 3DR.

I'm a new GNOME contributor. The reason? I always felt I wasn't in the same level of the awsome developers working on GNOME stack.

Then, I saw GNOME Calendar. It was perfect, beautiful, amazing. But it was unmaintained. "Oh, what a bad news! Let me try to fix that, I mean, it's just too awsome to be dead", I thought. The next day, I pushed my first GitHub repository, recorded a screencast and published a big design review.

Two months later, I was sending patches to Bugzilla. Luckly enought, +Erick Perez Castellanos is a gifted maintainer, and introduced me to the real GNOME community, taught me many things and was very patient. I'll gladly pay him a beer whenever I have the chance.

After that, you all know. A Google Summer of Code started, GNOME To Do appeared, GUADEC 2015 and stuff. And you guys know what's the best part? I feel at home now. I was warmly welcomed by the community, I feel that my work is not in vain and that we're doing something great.

I'm in love with GNOME. For the 18 years gone, and for the next 18 years!
