Agreed! It discharges much faster. However, it also appears to charge back up quicker than before

Glass updates are back!!

#GlassUpdates are back with KitKat for Glass, photo bundles & more

You’ve been asking us when the next round of updates were coming. Well, they’re coming later this week! We know it’s been a little while, but this is a big one and we think it’s well worth the wait. Here’s what you’ll find in the new release:

KitKat for Glass – Our most exciting update is subtle, but big. We’ve been working on a significant upgrade to a new version of the Glass software. It’s not a change you can see, but it brings improved battery life and makes Glass more reliable and easier to update in the future. And now that Glass runs Android KitKat, developers can write Glassware using the latest Android SDK goodness, along with new features from our GDK.

Photo bundles – This one has been a long-standing request from our Explorers: now when you scroll through your timeline, your photos, videos and vignettes from each day will be organized in bundles so that you can swipe less and see more.

Photo replies in Hangouts – Photo sharing has been really popular amongst our Explorers, so we’ve added new ways to send photos in Hangout messages. The next time someone asks “what’s up,” tap “Reply” and then take a photo to show them. (If you already took the perfect photo, you can still tap to “Send” it in a Hangout message.)

Sending feedback – We always want to hear feedback from you on ways we can make Glass better so we’re making it even easier. Tap on the device info card in Settings and tell us what’s on your mind. If you need help, you can still send us an email, call us, or post in the Explorers Community.

Voice command sorting – With new features and Glassware, your voice command menu has grown pretty long. When you tap or say “ok glass,” voice commands are now sorted by recency and frequency, making it easier to see the commands you use most often and faster to access them from the touch menu.

Video calls – We hold ourselves to high standards for the features that we build, and video calls aren’t living up to these standards. Explorers have told us so directly, and fewer than 10% of them use video calls. For this reason, we’ve made the hard decision to remove video calls from Glass until the experience is better. We don’t know when that will be, but in the meantime, keep an eye on MyGlass as more Glassware is built and released – we’re already seeing the developer community work on other video streaming services. We’ve always said that feedback from Explorers shapes Glass, and this is no exception.

…and more – This is a massive update and we couldn’t fit all the changes into this post, so watch the Glass Journal in the Explorers Community to see the rest.

Become a Glass Explorer on Tues April 15

Whoops. So... we’d planned to post this next week, but it looks like the cat's out of the bag now. Over the past several months, we’ve been trying out different ways to expand the Explorer program. Some of you signed up at Google I/O, some told us what you would do #ifihadglass , some were referred by a friend, some joined through their school or university. Our Explorers are moms, bakers, surgeons, rockers, and each new Explorer has brought a new perspective that is making Glass better. But every day we get requests from those of you who haven’t found a way into the program yet, and we want your feedback too. So in typical Explorer Program fashion, we’re trying something new.

Next Tuesday, April 15th at 6am PDT, we’re opening up some spots in the Glass Explorer Program. Any adult in the US* can become an Explorer by visiting our site and purchasing Glass for $1500 + tax – and it now comes with your favorite shade or frame, thanks to feedback from our current Explorers. The number of spots available is limited, so mark your calendar if you want to get in. You can find us on Tuesday at: http://google.com/glass/start/how-to-get-one

We’re excited to meet our new Explorers, and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts about Glass.

*To everyone outside the US... we know. Sorry :( We’re just not ready yet to bring Glass to other countries.

What Google Glass could be in the year 2020

They say that most patents we hear about don't make it to a final product - what about this one? Glass is obviously going to get smaller, like any technology, but what about this?

(And how funny would it be if we see an optical device like Glass released in the year 2020 :) )

Google Patents Tiny Cameras Embedded In Contact Lenses

Google has a new patent application with the USPTO (via 9to5Google), which takes one of the basic concepts of Glass and extends it even further, embedding tiny cameras that could be embedded in contact lenses for various uses, including photographing what a wearer sees, or providing the basic input for a contact-based assistive device for the visually impaired.

Another one of the few classy places in Midland. I enjoy the ambiance, as its different from just about everything else in the region. A very wide selection of wines and other drinks, and a unique food menu. One thing I don't understand - the name. "Whine"? Why name a place something that is synonymous with "complain" or "unhappy"? I get that it's sort of a play on words, but this just doesn't work.

Solid movie theater, always with the newest movies. On occasion they'll have special events too - when The Dark Knight Rises was released they did a Christopher Nolan Batman marathon leading up to midnight, for just $20. It was a packed house, and everyone was into it - great experience

Don't let the size of this place fool you - they've got great pizza here. And really good prices. This has become my go to place for pizza in Midland. A large cheese pizza for $6/$7? Can't best that. Rumor also has it that you can buy dough too, to make your own pizza at home.

I had sent framing done here and liked the finished product. It was a little more expensive than I would have liked, and the frame was much thicker than I expected, but the quality was very good. It was also finished about 4 days earlier than expected!

Delicious food. Definitely one of the top 3 "high end" places in Midland. Great place to bring a date or business client. Since this is in the Dow-owned H Hotel, this isn't a surprise. I love the smell of apples when you come in. During the warmer months, it's great to sit outside on the patio.
