The Thrifty-nifty-fifty returns!

Canon has finally announced a replacement for the nifty-thrifty-fifty, a mere 24 years after version II. So a big welcome to the new EF 50mm f1.8 STM!

The new EF 50mm f1.8 STM keeps the same focal length and aperture as its predecessor, not to mention a six element in five group construction. But instead of five diaphragm blades, there's now seven, promising smoother out-of-focus effects, and a closer focusing distance of 35cm compared to 45cm. The plastic lens mount of its predecessor has been replaced with a metal one, it's fractionally heavier by 30 grams and employs a slightly narrower filter thread of 49mm. Most importantly the slow and noisy micro motor AF has been swapped for Canon's thoroughly modern STM system for quicker and quieter focusing that's ideal for movies. Expected later in May for $125 USD / 129 GBP / 189 EUR it's set to become another best-seller, especially as it grows older and prices lower.

The thrifty-fifty finally has a sequel. Who's getting one? (PS - don't forget to order via my links at cameralabs!)

Finally, +Billy Canale someone is writing balanced articles about this stuff!
The Apple Watch is finally here in what has been one of the longest waits for an Apple anything in the company’s history. And like almost every product in that storied produce lineage, the Apple Watch enters the retail world with some stiff competition.

Good/decent food. The 2 entree 1 side deal (5.25) plus drink only ends up a little over $7, making this a very affordable meal. The only thing is that they make small portions at a time, so during a rush they may not have many entrees readily available, but it was good food, and we did not wait long.
