CDC study on Gun ownership as a risk factor for homicide in your home

In 1993, the CDC published in The New England Journal Of Medicine a science control study of Gun ownership as a risk factor for homicide in your home. Science folks. This is not once side VS another. Science. The paper linked here goes into great details about the methods used to create and test a control group vs homicide victims in control areas. Feel free to read all the sciencey details it if you wish.

SCIENCE RESULTS Highlights Of "Does owning a gun increase the risk of homicide in your home" include...
50% of the homicides occurred in the context of a quarrel or a romantic triangle..
76% of victims were killed by someone known to them
3.6% were Homicides by a stranger (others were unknown, police etc)
21% occurred because of a robbery, rape, or burglary etc...
49% of the homicides in the home were from gunshot wounds.....
43% attempted resistance but only 5% of the victims attempted to use a gun in self-defense (unsuccessfully)..
29%(victims) vs 17%(control) kept the gun unlocked...
26% vs 12% kept guns loaded....
32% vs 22% kept guns "primarily for self defense"...
and ... so on..

The conclusion by the CDC in the Journal of Medicine.... A gun kept in the home is far more likely to be involved in the death of a member of the household than it is to be used to kill in self-defense. The use of illicit drugs and a history of physical fights in the home are important risk factors for homicide in the home. Rather than confer protection, guns kept in the home are associated with an increase in the risk of homicide by a family member or intimate acquaintance.

More studies should be done.. regularly.. but in 1996... 3 years after this study was published... the NRA lobbied Congress and had a ban put on the CDC doing any more studies. First by cutting 2.6 million in funding from the CDC (the exact amount used on gun data research) and then outright passing an amendment that said - None of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control.

The scientists got the message. There has been only 1 other study done by the CDC in the area of gun data since.
