It is finished! The new instructional video "Working With Models" from me and my first-call go-to model (and damn good photographer) +Steffie Neve  is available for purchase on my site...and for a limited time, it's on sale, so save $50 on us :)

[PRODUCT DESCRIPTION]

"As a photographer, my work depends less upon gear and equipment than it does my ability to communicate with my subject. I have shot with high-end cameras, but I also have repeated success with “toy” cameras, Polaroids, and the camera on my phone. The lighting in my work consists of anything that emits light: the sun, candles, flashlights, neon signs, paper lanterns…and the list goes on. My “studio” is most often a simple blank wall with a window nearby, casting available daylight onto the subject.

I have always found that successful shoots have little to do with equipment – rather, they are the result of thorough and effective communication between the photographer and the model. The ability to effectively convey your ideas and give direction during a shoot is vital. This 2.5+ hour video focuses primarily on the importance of communicating and interacting with your subject, from conceptualization to the successful result.

Join me and my first-choice model (and accomplished photographer) Steffie Neve , as we discuss the finer points of photographing models. This video includes detailed discussions of:

- Equipment (you’ll be surprised how little of it I use)
- Keeping things positive during a shoot
- Professional expectations of both model and photographer
- How to find models to work with
- The importance of establishing a connection with your subject
- Conceptualization vs. Going With the Moment
- The finer points of etiquette before, during, and after a shoot
- How to effectively give direction
- Over 35 minutes of bonus footage!

Throughout the video, Steffie and I discuss (in detail) several of the photos we have created together. Get the inside story behind the inspiration, planning (if any), and realization of many of our images. The two of us have a combined experience of over 16 years in photographing models, so join us in this relaxed sit-down as we discuss things more important than camera bodies, lenses, and equipment.

HD video, approx run time of 2.5 hours."

Sometimes when I'm doing a photo shoot, I also shoot a bit of video. +Steffie Neve and I were doing a shoot at historic Anderson Mill in Austin, TX, and I could not resist shooting some video while we were there.

Behold the magic that is her :)

Old photo...new edit.

I actually took this back in 2007, when I was just getting started. Sometimes it's fun to go back into the archives and see where I was with my photography at that time...and every once in a while, I find an image that still holds up to my current standards.

+Darren MacKenzie There was no "original" edit. This is the only edit of an older photo of mine.
