Starting now, I am aiming toward taking more control of my online identity. I have always said before that your self-hosted blog is your most important online property. Anything you post to your blog is your own.
There is no guarantee when you post content exclusively in 'silos' such as Twitter, Facebook or Google+.
If and when these businesses fail, so is life's work lost. Also, the more you post your photos and stories to these services, the more you help them profit - without getting anything back in return !
I am not against anyone using Twitter, Facebook and other social Networking services: I am still going to be part of your online community, and will have fun. But, if I have to share anything, I will post it first on maniaravings.com/status
and then syndicate it everywhere else.
I am taking a page out from the fellows at IndieWebCamp, where you will find resources on how to take control of your online life. See: http://indiewebcamp.com/POSSEhttp://wp.me/p4cTQw-j
