My work (writing + photography) will appear in The Magazine: The Book. But only if it gets funded on Kickstarter. Please help make it happen! The hardcover book ships in January. Lots of details on the Kickstarter page.

My piece that's being featured is about the trials and tribulations of the Hamilton Wood Type museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. I drove up along Lake Michigan to do the photography there, and the museum/working wood type shop was really a sight to behold, even though they weren’t open to the public yet at their new location. This is easily one of my favorite pieces of mine from 2013.

I spent many moons researching and testing insulated travel mugs so you don't have to.

Teenagers know a lot more about social media privacy than we think, and teachers/mentors aren't paying attention at all.

I wrote a piece for Motherboard/Vice because I wondered whether adult product companies have UI/UX experts.

For those in Chicago and surrounding states that can pick up PBS/WTTW, I'll be appearing on Chicago Tonight (tonight) talking about our work at Smart Chicago and Civic Innovation Summer. Dan X. O'Neil will be there too, as well as two of the youths from the program. Check it out starting at 7pm CDT!

Here's a post I wrote about the work I did this summer with the Smart Chicago Collaborative and +Daniel X. O'Neil.

We put together a six-week data & technology curriculum for students in Chicago (the first of its kind!) and although there were some bumps in the road, the outcome was awesome. I wrote a bit about the lessons we learned from ‪#‎civicsummer. Please read it and get involved!

There are now 3D printers, milling machines, and laser cutters available to the public at Chicago's Harold Washington Library. I wrote an article about it (with photos!) for +Ars Technica:
