Creative class growth: NY Times vs. Fast Company
As I was reading an article in Fast Company on the US cities where creative job growth was happening , the results seemed in direct opposition (NY has both the largest AND one of the fastest-growing creative class populations) to a recently controversial NY...

If Dublin can do it, why not San Diego?
I've been a follower of the  sdurban blog since coming to San Diego 4 years ago. One reason: growing up in and spending most of my life in dense urban settings like Montreal, New York City and San Francisco, I have a deep appreciation for the benefits of ma...

Too much fragmentation in (San Diego) Marketing Associations
Something that's been bothering me since I left New York City, but it's taken on renewed emphasis since moving here to San Diego. There's just too much split inside the marketing community: SDX (formerly Ad Club of San Diego) American Marketing Association ...

AGILE development means AGILE marketing
IBM has been applying AGILE development theories and Design Thinking to its product development for some time. In the age of Cloud (the "API economy") and Big Data & Analytics (the ability to glean insights at scale), it's only natural. And it's paying divi...

Networking is your career's way of saying "eat your vegetables"
A common theme recently in both print and at some events I've attended: stop saying, or humblebragging, how busy you are. We're all busy. And that's a problem in so many ways. From our emotional and physical health, to even our career health. Yes, our caree...

Possibly the best Japanese food I've had so far in San Diego. Small -- dare I say "intimate" two-room box with a small bar and kitchen, the service is so friendly, and the food excellently prepared. The California Roll - that staple this signals good or bad like bread at an Italian restaurant - was fresh, crisp and slighly sweet. The gyoza complex, and the chicken cutlet (katsura) roll a wonderfully unexpected surprise. Definitely make reservations!

A happenstance find during our 1-week stay in Provence (Villelaure) in 2008. From the moment you walk in you feel as though the owner has welcomed you into his home. And the classic French cooking with modern twists and seasonal touches, paired with a stunning wine selection, and capped off with perfect desserts, made us come back a second time in the same week!
