I'm so bummed out my only surviving Gerbera Daisy is infected with spider mites 😭 I truly have no luck with flowers. Guess I should just stick to edible and culinary plants.

I bought the winged bean seeds from the neighbourhood store and began growing them.

First I needed to soak them in water for like 8 hours. The seeds grew a little larger in size which is a good indication that the skins are not too thick/ hard for them to sprout. After that I used nail clipper to clip off the centre to make an opening for the sprout. I proceed to place them on organic soil just on the surface for 12 hours. When I saw the sprout after a week, I planted them slightly deeper, about an inch.

After about one week, I was able to transfer them to bigger pots. I didn't insert any trellis but I used poles so assist them in crawling up to the gates for sturdy support.

My 2nd basil plant. I simply have no luck with basil. Perhaps it takes more than 2 attempts to make it work. 😔

Antipodean Cafe, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Antipodean is probably not the type of cafe that will make it to this blog since it's just a typical place to eat with very minimal decor and definitely not a nice ambiance for you to hang around for long. This is all due to the crowd that come and go around the clock. However, I feel compelled to put it up anyway because the food is awesome.

Once you walk into the cafe (this one is in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar), you'll see that most tables are filled up and probably there's already a line outside. You get your table quicker if you come in small party of two where they could just sit you at the corner. Lucky us!

We find the place very cozy and not too noisy although it was crowded. Menu is on the wall which was next to our table and obviously we had those moments where we felt like we were being watched but the customers were really just looking at the menu.

Although the servers there were extremely attentive, we find them pacing around way too much. Maybe that's why they were so quick to notice. They were very observant. However, it did make me a little dizzy with them walking back and forth from one table to another. I could lose some serious weight if I were to work here.

My usual flat white but it was slightly stronger than usual as you can see from the dark roasted coffee in the latte art itself. They used house-roasted coffee beans called Merdeka Coffee. Very nicely brewed coffee.

Adrena and her usual cappuccino. She didn't comment much so I guess she had better.

Bagel with smoked salmon was highly recommended by others who have been here. So being new here, we didn't really want to waste time going through every item on the menu so we ordered it right away.

The big breakfast was also highly recommended. Indeed, the mushrooms and baked potatoes in the big breakfast were particularly nice. They have quite a wide range of selection but we didn't manage to try any but we would definitely love to order some cakes on our next visit.

Sips & Bites Café, Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam

OUR EXPERIENCE
(Last visited October 2015)
Service: We were greeted as we walked in and promptly greeted. Orders were taken at the table and food is served to us. The person who attend to us happened to be the owner. Questions were answered satisfactorily. She knows her coffee too.
Ambience: I suppose it’ll be a little noisy and cramped when it’s crowded as the tables are arranged pretty close to one another but otherwise it was pretty cozy.
Coffee/ Drinks: House roasted coffee beans. I thought it was slightly over-extracted but the owner told me their coffee has less acidity.
Food: We ordered baked eggs, smoked salmon and seafood aglio olio. Baked eggs was particularly nice.
Cakes/ Desserts: Not many available but I did order ice-cream waffles which was nice.

Grandeur Gallery Café, Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam

Our Experience
(Last visited October 2015)
Service: Order and pay at the counter, then your food is served to you. Very friendly and attentive service. Questions were all promptly answered.
Ambience: Totally cozy and quiet. Very classy kind of decor. You really feel like you step into an art gallery. I could totally spend all day working here but I would feel bad hogging the place during peak hours. Most importantly, I think the café was very well maintained and very clean. It has been over 3 years but you would think it's a new place.
Coffee/ Drinks: Their coffee beans are not of single origins. I love their simple long black as it was nicely brewed, not over-extracted and not too acidic. However, I didn't enjoy their flat white, most probably because of the milk they used. It's a matter of personal preference because Adrena said she loved their cappuccino and didn't agree with me that their milk tasted weird.
Food: I ordered Grand Brekkie. Liked the sesame toast even though it was a little hard. Sauteed mushrooms and potatoes were nice. The sausage somehow didn't work for me. It was spicy and too salty so the taste didn't go well with the rest of the stuff on my plate. Adrena's pasta arrabbiata was overcooked and the sauce was almost tasteless.
Cakes/ Desserts: They have very good selection of cakes. The tiramisu is highly recommended by a lot of people but unfortunately for us, we visited this café on weekdays so we didn't get to try as it's only available on weekends. However, we would like to recommend that you try their lemon cheese. It's towards the sourish side but it was amazing! The taste was rich and enough lemon zest to make it aromatic. We also tried the Ferrero Rocher cake which was quite a disappointment. It was not bad tasting but the chocolate wasn't rich enough and it was rather dry.
