Mount Hamiguitan’s Pygmy or “Bonsai” forest is a unique ecosystem where the local vegetation has been stunted because of unfavorable soil conditions. Hamiguitan is the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Philippines and the only one in Mindanao. #unescoworldheritage #mindanao #philippineheritage #forestconservation #milkyway #bonsaiforest #nikonnofilter #pristine

Cleanergy Park in Davao is an eight-hectare sanctuary that has recently become a haven for endemic bird species and is one of the country’s few nesting sites for hawksbill turtles. Mount Apo, the highest peak in the Philippines, can be seen as the backdrop. #davao #conservation #mindanao #aerialview #reserve

Juanita Torremacho, a fourth-generation folk healer from the island of Siquijor, performs a 'tu-ob' ritual to help a patient with his arm pain. Parts of this ritual include fumigating the patient with a special mix of plants to rid them of their discomfort. Visitors from all over the Philippines (and foreign travelers) journey to Juanita’s home in hopes of being healed. Siquijor island is known for its black magic and sorcerers here can both heal and cast spells on people. It was interesting seeing the influence of the church on these sorcerers, with many praying and lighting candles on their altar before starting a ritual. #siquijor #philippines #folkhealer #traditionalmedicine #ritual

Another scene from Zambales of indigenous Aeta selling their banana heart crops. This is a major source of livelihood for the Aeta in the area and mini-market like gatherings such as this happen a couple of times weekly.
