Work
Occupation
Human-centered design-research consultant specializing in consumer insights for product innovation in emerging markets
Skills
consulting, human-based consumer behavior research, editorial photography, visual ethnography
Employment
  • JLCO Group
    Founder, 1999 - present
Jacob Langvad Nilsson is a freelance consultant, visual ethnographer, editorial photographer and entrepreneur working persistently in the cross-section between human-centered design research and visual ethnography, to tell stories about globalization, cultural shift, and the aspirations and desires of people living in a changing world. My goal is to tell stories about globalization and the lives of individuals in a changing world that inspire product designers, government policy makers and international brands to make culturally relevant decisions. I create value enhancement for my clients through creative solutions anchored to a thorough documentary research approach. I have leveraged my craft credentials to embrace intuitive entrepreneurial opportunities, including founding The BRIC Project in 2009, and Tender Research in 2010.
  • BOX1824
    Visual Ethnographer, 2008 - 2010
At BOX1824 I was responsible for the execution of qualitative consumer behavior research productions across Brazil. BOX1824 is a boutique consumer behavior and trend research agency based in São Paulo. They create custom, qualitative consumer behavior research projects for domestic and international brands, and during my time there I worked on projects for clients such as Nike, Fiat, Unilever, and Inbrev, as well as proprietary research projects such as 'The Brazilian Dream' (O Sonho Brasileiro).
  • BOLA Sociology Design
    Visual Director, Photographer, 2008 - 2009
I worked here as founding visual director and photographer. BOLA Sociology Design was an full-service creative agency founded as a subsidiary of BOX1824.
  • Tender Research
    Co-Founder, CEO, 2010 - 2012
Tender Research is a new breed of market research company providing comprehensive research services and strategic analysis of consumer behavior among the burgeoning middle-class within emerging market economies. Tender Research was founded upon the appreciation of a world undergoing a fundamental shift in economic power, away from the established, developed economies to the dynamic, uncharted and rapidly growing emerging markets. For international brands and institutions looking to engage this high growth and increasingly affluent societal segment, Tender Research offer invaluable insights upon which effective marketing strategies can be based. Our services are strictly tailored to meet clients’ specific requirements on a project or retainer basis. Tender Research is headquartered out of New York with a team of researchers, analysts, social anthropologists, visual ethnographers, data specialists, consultants and developers and operates in co-existence with Tender Creative. Tender Research draws from an international network of research teams to create coordinated consumer experiences from emerging markets, including China, India, Brazil, Indonesia, South Korea, Nigeria, and South Africa. Our findings empower international brands and marketeers with the necessary information to perpetuate the conversation about their brand and enable targeted services towards their consumers in increasingly competitive markets. Tender Research was founded in 2010 by Jacob Langvad Nilsson, Dean Di Simone, Cory Clarke, Adam Berninger, and Jacob Wildschiødtz.
