Ventured to Blackwater Falls State Park in West Virginia today. Here's a shot of the eponymous falls taken with my Nexus 5. I'll have a batch up from my DSLR later on too.

Glad to see things are staying at least somewhat active around here.

Just a bit of admin stuff in this post.

First off, I'm bad about clearing out the spam queue. If you've made a post and think its gotten caught up in the spam filter please send me a message. I do eventually get around to clearing it out, but I forget about it sometimes.

Secondly, photo posts are going to get a little stricter. Please provide some information and/or context if you post a photo. Cool photos are cool, but this is a community dedicated to anthropology. As such, context is key! Also, if the photo is not your original work, please include some text in the post telling who the photographer is and linking to their profile or website. Even if the photo has a watermark

Also along these lines, if you'd be interested in helping to moderate this community please let me know.

Thanks to everyone that participates in this community. Please keep posting and please share this community with others you think might be interested.

Ever wanted to stand on top of an ancient Mississippian temple mound? Well here is your chance to do it virtually at least. I took this photosphere at Ocmulgee National Monument last week.

Went behind the hotel tonight and did a little backyard #astronomy  with a coworker. Here's just a quick and dirty shot of the moon and Saturn with my D5100.

Coworker broke his telescope out and we had a look at Saturn. It was still just a tiny dot, but you could clearly make out the rings. Really cool!

Story
Tagline
Exploring the past, looking towards the future.
Introduction
I currently hold a B.A. in Anthropology from East Tennessee State University. Fate willing, graduate school is right around the corner.

My main areas of academic interest are the prehistory of the southeastern United States, the archaeology of highland regions, and how where we live shapes human culture and vice versa.

I'm also a bit of a technology nut. This has taken an anthropological bent in recent years, as I have become interested in how our cultures are changing in the face of the rapid proliferation and advancement of technology. I tend to be optimistic when it comes to this area, and I enjoy exploring futurist and transhuman theory and ideas.

I also dabble a bit in linguistics.

My hobbies include hiking and digital photography.

One12 Downtown is somewhat of an odd duck. During the day it's a combination sports bar/stir fry restaurant, and at night it transforms into a club. I can't speak to it as a club, but it's a fairly good restaurant. It can be a little on the pricey side compared to others around it, but the food is good and the menu has a wide selection without losing focus.

Scratch is a very unique and delicious pizza place. If you are feeling adventurous get a "trust" pizza, which gives the pizza maker free reign over your toppings. The combinations I've had have been unusual sometimes, but usually very tasty.

I used to frequent Tipton's a lot. Service went downhill considerably, and I haven't gone back in a while though. Might be better now. Check it out on a Tuesday evening for pub trivia.

Tootie's is the epitome of a local down home restaurant. The staff are very friendly, and treat you just as well as the everyday regulars sitting around drinking their morning coffee. The menu is fairly large, which can be a problem at smaller restaurants, but Tootie's fare is on the simple side and the menu is made up of Southern lunch counter staples. Prices are very good, and you get a lot of food for what you pay. I had a breakfast of two massive pancakes, two eggs cooked to order, hashbrowns, and two sausage patties. The meal was reasonably priced at around $6, and tasted great. Some of the items seemed to be from prepackaged stock, but they didn't taste that way. Overall a very good experience, and I'd like to return to drive their dinner menu.

Fantastic hole-in-the-wall burger joint. Burgers and fries were super tasty, and service was fast and friendly. It's a tad pricey, but very much worth it.
