I'm very exciting to announce that I will now be offering night photography workshops! I just posted the first set of dates with many more to come. I'm really looking forward to heading out and helping others learn about capturing the stars. Check out the links below for a workshop overview and a list of currently available dates. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.

I posted this last night on Facebook and the first date is already sold out! There are just a few remaining spots left in the next two listed. More details to be posted in the coming days. Thanks so much to everyone that has signed up so far! I'm blown away by the positive response.

I'm very excited to share my latest feature just posted on the +SLR Lounge | Photography Tutorials site. I talked to my good friend Jay Cassario to give some insight on what goes in to planning and creating a shot like Dreamers for their, "How You Shot It" section. Check it out and let me know what you think!

First Light - Sea Isle City, New Jersey

Dawn's early light starts to show over the horizon as Venus shines below the Milky Way.

Capturing the first light of the day as the last light from the stars quickly faded felt like a truly special moment. It was beautiful to watch, but as more color began to show I knew my time to capture everything was drawing short. I hope you enjoy it.

Dreamers – Sea Isle City, New Jersey

Above a cold Sea Isle City beach, the Milky Way shines brightly in the late hours of the night.

I may not live somewhere with dark skies and I may have to drive for hours to get somewhere I can see the Milky Way, but moments like this make each second of the drive worth it. As I adjust my settings and try to perfectly align all of the elements, I slow myself down and take those 20 to 30 seconds during each exposure and enjoy what’s in front of me. This may be one of my favorite photographs that I've ever taken. I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for your comments, +1's, and for sharing!

Venus reflects off a frozen beach as the Southern Arm of the Milky Way stretches across the sky in Sea Isle City, New Jersey.

As I stepped onto the frozen sand and breathed in the 10 degree air, I noticed something I had never seen at the beach. The slow rolling waves were leaving behind slushy piles of ice before they made their retreat back into the ocean. When I noticed the ice, I knew I needed to include it as I framed my shot. A long exposure at night will generally turn even a rough ocean to a smooth, calming scene. However, the flat water can easily appear featureless and uninteresting. For this reason, another focal point is often needed to anchor the foreground to complete a strong composition. In this case, I thought the ice at the edge of the frame was both uncommon and had enough texture to be a strong point of interest in the shot.

Although the Milky Way is visible year-round, different parts are visible at different times of the year. The more dense portion seen in this photograph, often referred to as the Southern Arm, is just becoming visible again late in the evening. Shortly after the Milky Way rises past the horizon, the planet Venus follows and shines brightly into the early hours of the morning.

It wasn't easy to drag myself out of a warm bed at 1AM to brave the below freezing temperatures, but it ended up being well worth the effort. Once I arrived at the beach and looked up to the beautiful clear sky, I almost completely forgot about the arctic like conditions...almost. More from Sea Isle City Soon! Hope you enjoy it!

Back To You - Avalon, New Jersey

Although I've been very busy with photography lately, this past weekend was actually the first time I was able to get out a shoot the stars in 2014. Rachel and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather over the weekend and take a trip to Ocean City and Cape May. After the Sun had finally set, we made our way to Avalon to catch some clear skies. This shot consists of nearly 300 individual long exposures that were stacked on top of each other to create the trails. Although the forecast called for totally clear skies, a few clouds through the upper left part of the frame.  Clouds and a whole lot of airplanes!!

New Jersey Based Landscape Astrophotography / Black & White Fine Art Photography
Introduction
Well, I've finally got around to filling in my Google+ account information. I created the account a while ago, but haven't had the time to put it to proper use. I'll be posting here more often and looking forward to sharing my work here as well.

Artist Statement

My photography started as a way to purely document my travels throughout the United States and Europe, but it has become my main form of creative expression. Too often we pass by natural beauty or fail to appreciate the things we are surrounded by every day. Through my photography I hope to preserve what has been forgotten and renew that which we have grown accustomed to.

My work focuses on three main genres of photography including landscape astrophotography, black and white minimalism, and seascapes. I set out to capture specific emotions that I want to convey with each image. I choose long exposures to not just capture a specific moment, but to convey movements that help complete a vision. Whether it is stars that seem to streak across the entire sky or a jetty that disappears in to a colorless ocean, it is a view not seen by simply looking through the camera.

Photography is my escape; it's my peace in an otherwise hectic place. I hope that viewers find the same beauty and serenity in viewing my images as I find making them.
