Citing safety concerns, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) ordered grounding of four aircraft of Shaheen Air on Thursday, adversely affecting flight schedules of the largest private airline in the country.

Boeing 747-800
Boeing Co.’s newest 747 jumbo jetliner faces a risk of dangerous vibrations, known as “flutter,” in limited situations, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Data analysis shows that “divergent flutter,” oscillations of a wing that could cause it to break up, may occur on the 747-8 during a “high g-load maneuver in combination with certain system failures,” the FAA said Wednesday.

Both aircraft were attacked and burned to destruction during clashes between militia groups at Aden International Airport. At the time of the attack, it is believed the aircraft were empty and stationary. The 747 was a former presidential aircraft painted in Yemenia Airways colours.

The FAA's air safety experts under an International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) programme are scheduled to meet with officials from the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and major airlines, including Thai Airways International.

It will be the FAA's first visit to Thailand since the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) visited in January to hold extensive tests before declaring in February that Thailand did not meet with the ICAO's Significant Safety Concern (SSC) safety standards.
