Writers of the Future, Guest Posting
Writers of the Future A funny thing happened yesterday. I received a call on my cell phone marked "NO CALLER ID." Now, here's where I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of phone conversation. In most cases, I'll gladly take a text or a tweet instead. So usually wh...

Read "The Dragon Weeps" in Sorcerous Signals (and Mystic Signals)
The Dragon Weeps is one of the first short stories I ever cobbled together when I started taking this writing thing seriously. Looking back now, it seems so long ago. When I think back to those fabled days of yore (aka 2012), I think, "Man . . . a baby wrot...

Kickstarter Watch: Fantasy Scroll Mag
If you read my last post , you may be familiar with Fantasy Scroll Mag , a new science fiction and fantasy magazine that will be publishing a story of mine called The Unworthy in one of its first issues. Fantasy Scroll Mag is currently running a Kickstarter...
If you're a reader of science fiction and fantasy, it's more important than ever to support new markets in the short fiction space. It's also worth mentioning that one of Fantasy Scroll's stretch goals is to be able to raise their pay for writers to pro-rates, and that would be fantastic.

Sale Braggage: "The Unworthy" Sold to Fantasy Scroll Mag

The Unworthy is a dark fantasy piece that leaped from some weird corner of my brain a couple of years ago when I first started experimenting at flash fiction length, and I'm glad it's found a home at Fantasy Scroll Mag. FSM's editor-in-chief, Iulian Ionescu, invited me to submit something after ...

Author, Speculative Fiction
Introduction
J.W. Alden has a fascination with the fantastic. As such, he's made speculative fiction his domain—though some other weird things sneak in from time to time.

He lives just outside West Palm Beach, Florida with his wife Allison, who doesn't mind the odd assortment of musical instruments and medieval weaponry that decorate his office (as long as he tries to brandish the former more often than the latter).

Alden is a 2015 Writers of the Future winner, a graduate of the 2013 class of Odyssey Writing Workshop, and a member of Codex Writers and SFWA. Check out the "Published Fiction" tab on AuthorAlden.com to give some of his stuff a read.
