Well, well -- how 'bout that? Looks like Google's throwing us a little curveball: Android Kit Kat instead of Key Lime Pie.
Just back from a whirlwind trip to Asia visiting our Android ecosystem partners in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Exciting to see all the high quality Android devices available now, including Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, LG G2, Sony Xperia and many more. Also looking forward to the new devices our partners are launching in Berlin at IFA, played around with them last week and really nice  -- stay tuned; we’ve got a lot more coming!

All this Android innovation is driving tremendous ecosystem momentum and I’m excited to share that together we’ve now passed 1 Billion Android device activations. Huge thanks to the entire Android community from the hardware manufacturers, chip makers and carriers to the developers and content creators to all of you - our Android users around the world - for making this possible.

On my return from Asia, I was also thrilled to find this guy waiting to greet me on the front lawn -- love the new #AndroidKitKat statue and can’t wait to release the next version of the platform that is as sweet as the candy bar that’s one of our team’s favorites:)

Wow. I wonder if they had to license the name. Though that's like free marketing so I'd guess no

Either that or this is an epic troll
What!?!?! Hahahahahhaaaaa. I never thought in a million years it would be anything other than Key Lime Pie. A partnership with KitKat might work.
WOW!!! The Kat is out of the bag!
(sings) What would you do for a nexus 5?
...this has GOT to be fake.... right?
Haha I couldn't see that being real, I smell a troll!
I always assumed Key Lime Pie was never confirmed by Google but the press jumped on it anyway. I hope this is true as it's a better name anyway.
Hey does it have anything to do with the fact that Apple send out its invitations today . I guess not 😄
+Lewis McGeary , I for one am not surprised at all. Great product placement op for Hershey (I think it's them), just like you can't find a sports stadium that isn't named after a phone company, investment firm, or food manufacturer any more.
I wonder if the statue is made out of real milk chocolate ...
Love it. Never thought I'd see a license used tho. Hoping there's significance to breaking it into pieces!
Does 4.4 mean to give Google more time for Android+ChromeOS convergence (5.0)?
"It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody." Here is the hope it means Google Voice actions available in more languages, and why not, Nexus available in more countries through the Play Store.

What else a non-US resident would ask? haha
+JR Raphael any idea if nestle uses slave free chocolate? Im not super political but if Google is in bed with those who use slaves for labor than I'm done with Google.
So much bitterness guys. Can't you both just be happy knowing that there are companies making stuff for us to pick and choose our preference?

I sure am.
I predicted "KitKat" over a year ago when people were wondering what "K" treats were out there.  Glad they came to their senses.  "Key Lime Pie" was a stupid name and it tastes pretty awful too.  KitKat is a far better name.  And the competition deal they are going to kick off is just bigtime free advertising for both companies.
No key lime pie? Darn! But Kit Kats are good too!
