Your church should be using multiple speakers on a regular basis (i.e., more than a couple times per year). Here are three reasons this is vital to a healthy congregation:

Why do we end our prayers "in Jesus' name, Amen"? The answer could challenge and change the way we pray.
I grew up in church, so I learned that when you end a prayer, you say, “In Jesus’ name, Amen.” It didn’t matter what we were praying for – health, security, God’s presence, others’ prosperity, traveling mercies and hedges of protection* – at the end of the prayer, you had to say “in Jesus’ name, …

Yeah, I've heard people say that you're supposed to pray in Jesus' name explicitly. To be fair, it does make less sense in your king analogy. You wouldn't say something to a king in the king's name.

What would the Lord's Prayer sound like if Jesus taught it today? I take a shot at putting Jesus' template for prayer in everyday language:

I'm not familiar with that translation. I'll have to look it up. Thanks! What did you think of my stab at it?

Here's my take on the big #HamonNye debate from last night. Or as some may have called it the #CreationDebate. Did you see it? What did you think of it?

Terrific analysis JR.  I completely agree with your major points.  Glad that our denomination has gifted ministers like you to help folks make sense of these things.

HER is a fantastic, awkward, funny film about the basic importance of our bodies. Even though a guy falls in love with his computer.
Her affirms that no matter how advanced our technology gets, we will remain minds and bodies. And that is okay. It might even been good.

It's a really intelligent film. One of the best uses of science fiction in a not-really-scifi film, and a very optimistic portrayal of the near future. Also Joaquin Phoenix is pretty good at acting.

Today, I count down the 10 most-read posts on my blog from last year. Not a lot of surprises - mostly movie reviews :D
I look back at 2013 on the blog: Which posts got your attention?

A friend of mine wrote a pretty funny parody of Piper's recent poem "The Calvinist". I asked if I could publish it and they said Yes. So here it is!

People ask me all the time "What translation of the Bible should I use?" and I always have the same answer:
The best Bible translation is the one you can understand. Choose a translation that doesn't put a barrier between you and reading your Bible.

I am glad you asked +JR. Forasteros .  Sorry I am just now seeing it.  I chose the HCSB originally because an outreach bible was on sale for 5.00 @ Lifeway.  Reading it is pleasurable and informative, and I enjoyed their choice to refer to THE LORD as Yahweh throughout the Old Testament.

The people here make the Church so special. They welcome you no matter who you are. Selfless, giving, loving. If you're curious about God, this is a great place to bring your questions. They don't claim to have all the answers, but they are asking the same questions.
