If you have not already read Serenity's Little Sister, Petrel Mine or Alcan Petrel 951 Sailing Dinghy, here is the short version... In the autumn of 2014 I bought a 12' aluminum Petrel dinghy. It was late in the season, and s...

The Petrel will live on its trailer, and get launched as required. I probably won't use it in salt water until after I get the bottom painted later this summer. I cleaned up the rusty cockpit drain plugs, so hopefully that fixes the leak. The town needs to put in a boat launch at Woolfrey's Pond so it can be more easily used by boaters.

There are some jobs on the boat that seem to get put off year after year. As long as there are no issues, other tasks take priority. One of those, for me, is cleaning and lubricating the winches. I've owned the boat for 9 yea...

Kitchen Renovation - Phase 2
With the new refrigerator in its new location (see Phase 1 ), the plan was to get a kit so that the portable dishwasher would not have to be moved to the sink for use. The plumbing would not be too difficult, and it would be a great convenience. However, as...

Good to see you back. My kitchen renovation started in 2011 when the new refrigerator did not fit well where the old one was. Things snowballed from there. I'm still impressed with the work I did. Probably worth doing up some blogs about it.

New blog post. Coming up on 10 boating season with my PY23 "Serenity".
May 2015 marks the ninth anniversary of my purchase of a 1977 AMF Paceship PY23. It also means that this will be the tenth sailing season with Serenity. From 2006 to 2015 the boat has been an ongoing project of repairs and up...

Kitchen Renovation - Phase 3
After nearly a year of living with one side of the kitchen brand new ( Phase 2 ), and the other side a modified original ( Phase 1 ), I decided to make both ends match. While very functional, it just looked weird. It was tough tearing out all the work I had...

Almost 2.5 years, but at level 6 in Ingress!

I wanted to get to 6 just so that I would have a chance against some of the stronger portals. Not too concerned about the levels above 8. I do a lot of walking between portals, or take my bicycle, so case is not an issue, plus I get some exercise.

During the summer I can go to the more distant portals on my motorcycle, which burns almost half what the car does. No special Ingressing trips more than 20 minutes drive away in the car. Gas is too expensive.

We needed a new refrigerator. The old one was getting on in years, and starting to look worse for wear. It still worked fine, but the plastic was beginning to fail occasionally allowing items to fall out when the door was ope...
