Friends,

P.G. was a friend within a very special circle of friends of +Stephanie Harvey and I. Our hears are broken at this sudden loss. If you're a fan of fiction, science fiction or steampunk and aren't familiar with Patrick's work, please read Evo's post.

On August 20th 2014, at 11:20pm, P.G. Holyfield — author of Murder at Avedon Hill — lost his very short battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a particularly vicious and deadly form of cancer. He was 45 years old.

Effective now and for the immediate future, 100% of all donations we receive to Murder at Avedon Hill or made directly in P.G.s name will be provided to a fund set up to help care for the three young daughters left behind. Normally, we keep 25% of all donations. But in Patrick’s case (Patrick is the P in PG) all proceeds we collect go straight to them, no admin fees.

http://podiobooks.com/title/murder-at-avedon-hill/

To say that we’re saddened and shocked by this is an understatement of the highest degree. A giant P.G.-sized hole is left in the lives of his extended family, to which I am deeply honored to be a part of. If you’ve listened to his work — here or in various other places, as the man was prolific — then you are part of it as well.

Rest well, my friend.

Whoa!

We've been covering HBO's planned adaptation of Micheal Crichton's Westworld for almost a year now. But now we can report that the show has finally begun casting and will hopefully start shooting this summer. During a Q&A session at the TCA press tour HBO's president of programming, Michael Lombardo said this: "Hope we’re going to start shooting this summer. We’re casting right now, and I assume, you know, announcements will come out when those d...

Westworld was one of those movies that influenced me toward SciFi as a kid. Ditto for Logan's Run. I'm excited to see if the remake honors the original.

I was a little guy and remember my mom making sure I heard the coverage of the landing. As I recall we saw it on our (black & white) TV too. What an amazing time!

The Eagle Prepares to Land: It was 45 years ago today that Neil Armstrong took the small step onto the surface of the moon that changed the course of history. The years that followed saw a Space Age of scientific, technological and human research, on which we have built the modern era. We stand on a new horizon, poised to take the next giant leap-deeper into the solar system. The Apollo missions blazed a path for human exploration to the moon and today we are extending that path to near-Earth asteroids, Mars and beyond.

This image is of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module Eagle in a landing configuration and was photographed in lunar orbit from the Command and Service Module Columbia. Inside the module were Commander Neil A. Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin. The long rod-like protrusions under the landing pods are lunar surface sensing probes. Upon contact with the lunar surface, the probes sent a signal to the crew to shut down the descent engine.

I remember watching it on a B&W too. I also remember Apollo 13 and them bringing a TV into the school so that we could keep up with what was happening. I was riveted both times.
