I'm disappointed that the new #MacMini suffers on CPU because #Apple eliminated the Quad Core i7 as an option.  The Mini is no longer for power users.  That's too bad, because I'm not a fan of paying a grand more for a similarly spec'd iMac - its overpriced integral screen is a perfect example of planned obsolescence (since you can't upgrade the screen or computer separately).  For now, I'll sit on my 2012 Mac Mini which is at least adequate for digital darkroom duty.  Where to go in the future is a quandary...

Caterers, please, don't serve peanut products to families and children. If it seems inconvenient to adjust recipes to today's serious allergies, imagine our inconvenience spending half a day in the ER. Peanut allergies are "recognized as one of the most severe food allergies due to prevalence, persistency and potential severity of allergic reaction." The food world is different than when we were young. #caterer #peanut-allergy

For photography, I'm not much for charts and tables.  But the conclusion of this analysis, that a modern full frame digital sensor can provide good resolution at, say f/16, by combating diffraction in post with a healthy dose of sharpness, is so helpful.  I tested a landscape image from my #sonya7 , shot at f/16, and was pleased with the result with 50% sharpening in some foreground flora...
I think most photographers will have come across various online resources, books, magazines and blog posts telling them that certain apertures are 'out of bound

I plead ignorance on MTF +Kiran Nimmagadda. I read the intro, skimmed the jargon, and focused on the conclusion. It was enough to encourage me to try a healthy dose of sharpening on an f/16 image which previously felt too soft. It was enough to encourage me to experiment...

#Sonya7  - some thoughts on its great night shooting capabilities here...
Exposure – the camera balanced the exposure well. After a brief trial with exposure comp set +1/2 stop (a habit from other cameras), I found that I preferred the images better at +/-0. This was on city streets well illuminated by street lights, storefronts, bars and restaurants.

I'm so grateful to +George Jardine for sharing this article about working with tone curves in the darkroom.  For a long time, I've ignored tone curves and just worked the sliders.  But Jardine's explanation of how the curves can be used to enhance the mid-range, at the expense of the extremes, for example, is clear, concise, and empowering.  Within an hour of reading his article, I improved my technique...

I passed this spot maybe twenty times before finally having the right camera and lens, decent late afternoon light, and not too hungry to stop roadside after a long day at work. The view looking over the #GreenRiver  valley, near #Vernal , UT...

What makes a car classic - and what is the emotional appeal of a classic car photo?  I reflect upon it here.

I've been having a great time shooting with the #Sonya7  camera...
About the Subject. What makes a car classic? Four or five decades after its production, you might say that simply surviving makes an old car classic. But there are old cars which are only euphemistically referred to as classic. A classic car's design has a fundamental truth which inspires an ...

What a beautiful commercial from Coke about the diversity that makes up America. It saddens me that this video has caused such a stir and brought out the "only language of America is English" mentality from some. Get over yourself and grow up. Life is not beautiful because of any one thing, but the convergence of a diversity in language, culture, experience, love and acceptance of one another and the world around us.

What are your thoughts?
