That said I just finished reading JK Rowling's The Casual Vacancy. Reviews were mixed. And many of my friends that are Potter devotees seemed to have no interest in it. But I liked it. A lot. Funny, endearing, awful characters abound and some of the loveliest writing I've read in a while. If this book had been twice the length I'm sure Rowling would have found a way to keep me engaged. As it was I devoured the 639 page book in about three sittings. Tore right through it.
I may have to reconsider the Potter books after all.
