Last winter I wanted after a long day at work late in the evening relax a bit and decided to walk a little by the Berlin nightlife. My path led me first to the ATM. Outside was no frost, but it was pretty cold. I walked into the lobby of the bank where the ATM's are and walked purposefully towards a vending machine. I saw someone behind the statement printers. No, please do not .... a beggar , a bum , a homeless man .... as always. Must it have to be here . A week ago, someone was here already. A young man. I do not understand how someone can get into such a situation , here in Germany . You can not. but that can only be lazy or alcoholics and them is all shit. Yes, such people end up on the street.

I fetched € 150 at the ATM and walked slowly back to the door. I looked over at him . He slept . I saw his face . It was the same young man Maybe 22 or 25. He was dirty and it came across an unpleasant odor. Suddenly he was awake. We looked at each other and I asked him : Everything okay? Such a stupid question , for me everything is okay , obviously not for him . Although it was uncomfortable to me, I was curious and tried to build up a conversation with him . After hesitant beginnings, I learned his story. He was not a Berliner . He has made a lot of nonsense at home and has come into great conflict with his parents, so he only saw for himself the only way : running away from home. He was at that time 17 years old. The money was fast all and he met the wrong people. Piece by piece, it went downhill and on the road. First he was too proud to return home. Now he has no more pride, but not the money. I thought about it and I gave him € 20 for breakfast and a shower. My condition was that he was waiting for me here in front of Bank early at 09.00 clock.

The next morning, I did not believe it, he was standing there. I went with him over to the train station and bought it for 63 € a train ticket home. I do not know if he is really gone. But I never saw him again.

A man came home from work late, tired and exhausted.
His five-year old son waiting for him at the door:
"Daddy, may I ask you something?"

"Yeah, sure. What is it?" the man answered
"Daddy, when you work, how much you earn per hour? "
"That's none of you. Why do you ask such things?" the man said angrily.
"I just want to know, please tell me how much you get an hour, " pleaded the little boy.
"If you have to know: I get 20 euros an hour. "

"Oh," groaned the little boy with his head down. Then he looked up and said:
"Dad, can I please borrow ten euros from you?"
The father exploded: "Was that the only reason to learn, what I deserve?
Just give me money and wangle so to buy a silly toy or other nonsense? You can go to your room and think about if that was not very selfish. I work long and hard every day and I do not have time for this childish nonsense! "

The little boy quietly went to his room and closed the door.

The man sat in front of the TV and resented more than the sneaky attempt of his son.
After about an hour he had calmed down and began to ask himself,
if he had not overreacted. He walked up to his son and opened the door.

"You already asleep?" he asked.
"No, Daddy. I'm awake."
"I've been thinking. I think I was too hard just now," said the man "I had a long, difficult day and I skipped my tension on you. Here are the ten euros that you have wanted to be. "

The little boy jumped off the bed: "Oh, thank you, Dad!" he shouted.
Then he took under his bed, a flat cardboard it with some coins.
When the man saw that his son had already been quite a bit of money, he was annoying, while his son, slowly counted the money. "Why have you asked me for money, but if you already had that?"

"Because I did not have enough. But that's it!" ... The boy said .... "Dad, I'm now 20 euros.
Can I buy an hour of time with you? "

Vietnam
Previously - pawn of the colonial powers
today -  economic miracle in socialism

When you think of Vietnam, first think of the dirty war in Vietnam from 1964 to 1975 . A country with a devastated infrastructure, destroyed the economy and immeasurable poverty and suffering.
Vietnam was always a pawn of the colonial powers . A colonial power replaced the other. Until the mid-19th Century Vietnam was considerably under Chinese influence . Then the Frenchman made wide piece by piece and controlled the country. During the Second World War came in 1941 to the Japanese. After the second world war, the hope for independence was nullified by the required claim of France to Vietnam and it was war again. After the french defeat, the country was divided into the communist North Vietnam and the US-backed South Vietnam. 1964 provoked the United States an incident which escalated the Vietnam War and was ended only in 1975 with the victory of communist North Vietnam and the reunification of the country. Vietnam was from 1941 - 1975 in constant struggle against foreign powers .
The many years of war have sign the country. Normal economic development was hardly possible.

Vietnam nevertheless makes headlines today other. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia. Market reforms show their effects. Vietnam's "economic miracle" began in 1986, when the suffering from the consequences of war and destruction country began to open market economic reforms. The gross domestic product (GDP) in 2010 grew by nearly 7 percent. Major exports are crude oil, rice, coffee, textiles, shoes and fish.
Investors flock to Vietnam. Low labor costs and proximity to China are tempting. But there are also persistent reports about catastrophic working conditions and low pay to much. It is hoped that Vietnam does not become a new economic colony.

After Germany goods worth 2.94 billion euros in 2010 came from Vietnam (+28.4 percent). The exports are valued at 1.48 billion euros (+32.8 percent) - including especially machinery, vehicles and chemical products. In the EU, Germany is the largest trading partner of Vietnam. More important is the tourism.

10th May 1969
The U.S. Army in Vietnam begins with a large-scale attack on Dong Ap Bia hill near the village of Thua Thien near the Cambodian border, which is registered in the U.S. military card as hills 937th The last major U.S. ground offensive in the Vietnam War, later known as the Battle of Hamburger Hill, as the mortar shelling of the North Vietnamese People's Army for many Americans, "hamburger ground beef" made.

Although the hills had little strategic value 937, U.S. commanders arranged a large-scale ground offensive in the area of Ap Bia in order to cleanse it from hostile North Vietnamese troops. The North Vietnamese Army defended their positions by all means and added the heavy losses to American troops.
After ten days succeeded the 101 U.S. Airborne Division to take the hill after heavy fighting and keep.
The effects of the Battle of Hill 937 were more political than military. The media opened the discussion to the public, whether the battle and the high U.S. losses were really necessary. The criticism of the Vietnam War and the associated anti-war protest movement grew even stronger, so that the war could not be justified by the politicians any more.
