As of July 1st, Ivar’s original Acres of Clams is happy to unveil one whale of a transformation at our flagship location on Pier 54, located along the historic Seattle Waterfront and overlooking Elliott Bay.

Ivar’s Acres of Clams just completed a stunning remodel, the biggest in its 77-year storied history. The down-to-the-studs remodel includes expanded indoor dining space, a new massive outdoor patio, expanded state-of-the-art kitchen and a completely refreshed interior that still pays homage to our iconic restaurant’s roots.

Upon entering Ivar’s Acres of Clams you will be immersed in the history and lore of Ivar’s and our flounder Ivar’s Haglund. We restored many of the original features of the Pier, which opened in 1901, including exposed fir beams and a refurbish Galbraith-Bacon & Co sign from the original tenant (some say the Seattle Costco of its time). With a more airy feel and open windows, diners will enjoy views of the Puget Sound, passing Washington State ferries and fireboats from historic Fire Station #3. If you prefer al fresco dining, enjoy a stunning, new outside patio deck complete with fireplaces built from reclaimed wood from the original restaurant. Bask in the open-air breeze while taking in the sights and sounds of Elliott Bay, including the tranquil passing of ferries – and the occasional seagull friend.

The most incompetent wait staff, worse than bad restaurants in Colorado. The busboy was the only person that seemed to care. We walked in 15 till 4 (which we later learned was when the dinner menu started). The host immediately pushed us toward the happy hour section but didn't really make it clear what seats weren't included. We sat at a table by the window as the rest in the bar area were full. After waiting for a few minutes the busboy inquires why we're sitting there and that we need to be seated so I talked with the hosts again and one got us menus and took the extra table settings. As expected, the waiter came by after a few minutes, but didn't introduce himself, just took our drink order, and, after, our order of clam chowder (which everyone we spoke to raved about) and I got a Cesaer salad. Our food took a while even with few other guests in the building, but it was fine as we watched the scene. We got the chowder and there was a clear film on both bowls, and the chowder itself was incredibly watery, tasteless, and the clams were rather chewy; I've had better chowder form a can. The salad was wilty and bland. The only flavor it had was from the lemon after I added it. There was no follow up from our waiter, and at one point he briefly walked toward us but then quickly turned away. Even when I put the salad at the edge of the table and brought the check. If we were at a wrong table to begin with, there was no mention of, or request made to reseat us to another section. On the plus side, we did get the Calimari, and it was actually phenomenally good. If you want chowder, just go up the street to Pike Place Chowder for an infinitely better experience.

This place was way too hyped up for me. I told my local Seattle friends I wanted some good oysters, so they brought me here. The service before my whole party arrived was impeccable; however, as soon as our party of 8 (automatic 18% gratuity) had arrived, our waiter was flocking around every four top near ours, but rarely paid us any attention (he also forgot to bring several different items to our table, even after they were requested twice). My moscow mule tasted like gasoline and soap. The margarita was much better. The oysters were not what I was expecting, some were too briny, but most were lacking any flavor except for rotting. I would have gladly taken the briny ones at best. I ordered a salad, it was fine. My husband ordered the chowders and was not impressed by their "famous" white chowder. Why anyone would have it shipped to their home is beyond me. All in all, I say three stars... It wasn't horrible, but I definitely won't go back. Can't beat the view of Seattle though!

Love the Chowder and the Fish and Chips. Eat inside and get a window seat if you're on a date. Otherwise, go to the walk up window and save a few dollars. There is a mark up on the prices on some of the items inside for the view. But, the chowder and fish and chips taste exactly the same outside.

The chowder bread bowl is what I get every time, and I've yet to leave unsatisfied. I really need to try more there, but it's so hard when the chowder bowl is so good.

Ivar's is a Seattle experience. It's not the most fancy seafood around, but the atmosphere and food are fantastic at the price point! Your best views are usually summer evenings as you watch the boats in Elliott Bay, and the state ferries come in to the next door dock. Ivar's offers a wide range of seafood options. One my favorite staples is the Seafood Chowder.

Aside from its famous white chowder living up to its name, this place was wholly disappointing, especially for the price. It appeared as if, as soon as we sat down, the server looked at our table (composed of 8), and knew he was getting his tip (guaranteed 18%), so he mailed it in. We had to wait 30 minutes for waters and then more time for drinks/appetizers. Throughout the meal, three separate waiters around the restaurant dropped items, which was embarrassing and, frankly, annoying. When our main entrees arrived, most of the hot plates were overcooked (see: halibut, salmon) and served lukewarm to cold. The red chowder (tomato-based) was frankly inedible, tasting like it literally had been scooped out of a can and not even warmed. The oysters were tasty (kinda hard to screw up), but no one was exactly thrilled with their "housemade" mignonette. I guess this is what you get for coming to such a giant restaurant, living on its age-old reputation, and expecting consistent quality. The only reason to come back is if I were starving, on the waterfront, and in need of oysters. Otherwise, there are loads of better options in-town.

Buttery rum was fantastic!!! Chowder was good, bacon flavor was great patatos a bit over cooked, great clams though. Crab cakes had great taste needed a bit more binder and grilled a bit more for a great crust. Overall a good meal

Good food and great experience. Definitely a Seattle staple. It's cool to be able to eat on the waterfront at an affordable price. And feeding the seagulls is the best part of the experience. They will take a fry right out of your hand or even your mouth if you try.
