Ultra thin transparent circuit can wrap round human hair and still work

Electronics engineers have developed an electronic chip so flexible it can wrap around a human hair and continue to work.

The team from ETH Zürich report in the journal Nature Communications that designs like these will be important for "biological tissues sensing, wearable or implantable devices", suggesting a whole host of potential applications in connected healthcare and wearable tech that is finally made fashionable.

According to project lead Giovanni Salvatore, the "wafer-scale" transparect electronics circuits are first built onto a layered 5cm silicon template. This dissolves when placed in water to release the final thin substrate, which is made of parylene and only one micron thick.
