Checking in! Rode with Doug and RoTY, Phil stopped by and headed out to Cars and Coffee. Took the bottom a couple of times after scoping it out. It's totally fine now after all the rain damage, looks like they cleaned it up, no traffic stops either (looks like that's a M-F thing). Saw power rangers getting pulled over by two CHP at either end of Ortega before Antonio and another one at the start of Santiago by the camp. Got plenty of video and pics to post later tonight… oh yeah… and then there's the corkscrew… ;) Ortega should be beautiful tomorrow if y'all were thinking about it but weren't sure of the road conditions.
… thanks for Doug and the other unknown riders that stopped to lend a hand at the corkscrew! I had been trying to stand it up for at least 10 minutes before y'all rolled by… plenty of cars asked if everything was OK which was really cool.

The Indian Demo Truck will be here at San Diego Indian Motorcycle! A dozen plus bikes available to demo throughout the day 3/15-3/16. Stay tuned for details!

… I'm thinking of having a ride out of Irvine to this if there is enough interest - will know more as we get closer so stay tuned.

Today my good friend +Jai Singh and I swapped bikes for the first time during a lunch ride. He hopped on my 2005 Yamaha FJR1300 and I hopped on his 2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650 (he had to lower the pre-load, naturally!), then we zipped all over town testing each other's bikes. It was quite fun. I really have gotten used to my big bike so anything smaller feels strange - especially having to toggle through the gears. It certainly makes me nervous of when I eventually get my Ninja 300 back from Mission Motorsports after her engine has been rebuilt - I've been without her for 44 days now! … (they are still waiting on parts from Kawasaki USA)… Riding Jai's bike today has made it the 23rd unique bike I've test ridden since I started riding last year!

The FJR is a fantastic bike. I really think I'd be interested in a used model with ABS.

Starting from the top down:

Great wind protection; the adjustable screen was very easy to dial in. Not Gold Wing level, but I like to feel like I'm outside.

The dashboard was a little busy, but provided necessary information. A gear position sensor would have been nice.

Great ergonomics, although I think my knees might be a little sore after 400 miles.

The seat was stiff and wide. I think it would be comfortable all day.

Controls were standard and fine. The clutch required very little pull.

The brakes were plenty grabby, although I was gentle on then since I'm used to ABS.

Handling was great. Due to the shorter rake and good geometry, shifting my weight led the bike to turn in very easily. It's not a 600 sport bike, but it doesn't feel unwieldy. Felt stable and solid at all speeds.

The engine was powerful, with plenty of torque. I could be going 80 MPH, and an inch of throttle still feels like I'm being launched. Never felt urgent or severe. Also, very smooth, with little heat.

The transmission only had 5 gears, but with such a versatile motor that was plenty for a tourer. It shifted smoothly, and positively.

Weight, it's a heavy bike and you feel it at low speeds. Not so much that it's unwieldy and massive, but that you have to respect its weight and exercise caution. This may be because I'm not used to it.

Israel, how would you review the Strom?

You will be disappointed. The long way around was much more superior.

Within minutes of contacting Drew he had a plan of action for my dilemma with my 2013 Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 883 and made an appointment with him today at his shop. As soon as I arrived and in short order he verified the issue and had adjusted my "lava-hot" exhaust screw so that it was no longer scraping the asphalt while leaning on turns by rolling the screw assembly up and retightening it so it was completely out of the way. Now I have that extra inch of clearance and can rely on my peg feelers to know when my leans are too deep so I can quickly readjust. He made it seem so easy! I've added him to the top of my bike mechanics list and will be sure to consult with him first in the future for all my motorcycles. He was very friendly, well informed and extremely professional!

Earthly Juices is one of my goto juice bars in Orange County. This one in specific has a fantastic atmosphere that most don't see everyday. Everyone is quite mellow and grounded. The juices are fantastic and you can choose from a large menu choice or make your own; you can take your juice to go in plastic cups or glass jars (for a dollar more). Other competing juice bars are Whole Foods, and Mother's Market with the real difference being the others feel like you are in a store buying a product where at EJ it feels like you are at a friend's house getting libations! :)
