Heading out of town soon?

What is a Dental Implant?

Comprised of three distinct elements, a dental implant is held together by precision fit and cement or screws. First, a small titanium post is inserted into the tooth socket replacing the root of the missing tooth during a surgical procedure. After healing, an abutment post is affixed in the hollow center of the implant.  Finally the implant crown fits on top of the abutment post. These pieces together form a high-quality tooth replacement that appears to emerge naturally from the gums. The appearance is so natural it is often impossible to tell the difference between  an implant crown and natural tooth enamel.

Typically a dental implant procedure requires a referral to an oral surgeon, however select general dentists like Dr. Coral Posert of Island Dental are thoroughly trained  to perform both the surgical implant placement  and the subsequent implant crown fitting.
