As part of the One Health approach with the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and CDC-Atlanta, Arnaud Orelle conducted a practical training on molecular diagnosis (by PCR) for animal pathogens in CNERV, Nouakchott, Mauritania on July, 25-29, 2016.

Some theoretical lectures about molecular biology and PCR were given along with a practical review of several processes, encompassing RNA extraction (using manual methods), conventional PCR theory and real-time PCR. Training priority was given to the PCR technique, appropriate quality controls, running conventional PCR and to the interpetation of real-time PCR runs.

We thank and acknowledge the GHSA and the CDC for their support and all the participants, actors, laboratory manager and staff for their collaboration.

Integrated Quality Laboratory Services (IQLS) President Dr. Antoine Pierson and consultant Coosje Tuijn put their expertise into practice by helping to develop a quality manual for the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) in Dehli, India. This quality manual provides the foundation in the Laboratory Quality Management Systems Training and Mentoring in India project and will be used at the medical college and district levels.

The quality manual took 5 days of intensive collaboration between IQLS consultants and onsite laboratory personnel Dr. Lata Kapoor and Dr. Sumeeta Soni.

The project was funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Dr. Antoine Pierson, IQLS President, provided onsite strategic development services building the capacities and capabilities of the Central Media Making Laboratory (CMML) located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

IQLS works together with local lab personnel and customizes policies to fit a laboratories’ particular needs. Because problems can often arise during the implementation phase, this visit included providing assistance on moving forward on the IQLS recommendations made in October 2014.

Additional meetings focused on the preparation of a short roadmap for the next 4-6 months, the participation in an upcoming conference about media production strategy in Cambodia, and the overall future of the CMML.

Future meetings have been planned for 2016 to continue accompanying CMML in the successful completion of its objectives while at the same time scaling up its production.

The project is funded by Diagnostic Microbiology Development Program (DMDP).
