Oracle Community & Oracle Support Tips

Whenever I encounter a Production  issue with the system, the triage part comes first – whether it is critical or not, and if we had already encountered  it and have documentation. In case that the issue is new, often times I turn to Oracle Support for an…

A Better Way to Riot in Ferguson, MO

It is sad to hear about the anger and destruction of rioting crowds as a result of a legal proceeding brought about from the shooting of a man in Ferguson, Missouri. Maybe the crowd's anger can be redirected and channeled to affect positive and lasting change.

Here's an idea that could work and might be tried. When negative events arise like they did in Ferguson, local spiritual leaders could assemble those that might be inclined to riot into for pay "protest and paint" squads to beautify the local areas. Rioters could make their protests known by lifting up and beautifying rather than by looting and destroying.  Pay each "protester" a good wage for their good work thus leaving them satisfied financially for their efforts and spiritually for the beauty they produced.

Could this or a similar approach help break the cycle of anger, hate,  and frustration? Wouldn't everybody involved be better off? How would we raise the funding for such an effort? Funding could be generated from public and private generosity as well as funding from insurance companies who would save on claims not having to be paid out due to destructive riots.

Does this idea sound too simplistic and unlikely to work? Maybe so, but it is an approach that provides HOPE and Goodwill to those who would accept it. And the legacy of the beauty that results would serve to remind us of the protester's cause and that alternatives exist to riots when we are angry.

What do you think?
