According to the American Hair Loss Association, 2/3 of men will begin to see their locks lose some of their luster by age 35. Once the big 5-0 rolls around, about 85 % of men will have experienced a significant amount of thinning. Hair loss can start at a young age! The American Hair Loss Association also estimates that about 25 % of men who are affected by the condition begin to see the first signs of hair loss before age 21. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, "30 million women in this country have hereditary hair loss, compared with 50 million men" (Source), and yet much of the focus is placed on men, despite the notion that hair loss is more acceptable amongst men. Although physical appearance is only one facet of a woman's qualities, it is often unfairly scrutinized by society, being placed under a magnifying lens of importance. In both social and professional spaces, women are judged based on aspects of their physical appearance, particularly their hairstyle.

PRP Therapy as a Treatment for Hair Loss?

The search for an effective, non-intrusive, and safe treatment for hair loss has been fairly elusive to this point, yet now experts may be a step closer thanks to a treatment tool that is all-natural and easy-to-access: platelet-rich plasma (PRP) drawn from the patient's own blood.

PRP is suited for targeting androgenetic alopecia, the hereditary hair thinning that affects both men and women. Experts have suggested that PRP may also be effective for women with traction alopecia, hair thinning caused by too tight ponytails, and other styles that pull the hair out.

Hair loss can occur for many different reasons, including changes to your diet. People say losing weight is as simple as eating healthy and exercising regularly. This may be true, but with so many diet fads and companies looking to make a quick buck with their "weight loss secrets," people can easily become confused which diets are helpful and which are harmful. Although losing weight is generally supposed to make the individual healthier, extreme diets or even just poor dieting choices can be destructive and lead to issues such as hair loss.

We’ve never figured out why men with thinning hair want to “hide” the fact instead of coming to us for help (consults are free) but they do so here’s a few tips. Ask your barber (did you know we cut hair too?) to give you a shorter cut, as a shorter style will let your hair stick firmer & stronger. Use lighter finishing products, “heavy” styling products like moulding cream & pastes just weighs hair down. Try using sea salt spray (Murdock is a good one), allowing more creative styles with texture that helps build natural volume.
