A messy job but oh so worth it!

I love wood paneling and we see a lot of it on many of the remodels we do. Often it feels dated though, with a golden oak stain covered in a thick coat of polyurethane finish. A paint job, done well, can totally reinvent spaces with this kind of detailing. Here is our team hard at work stripping and sanding the woodwork on our latest project. 90% a good paint job is in the prep work and boy our team is up to their elbows in it! I just can't wait to see how this grand foyer will soon be reborn. #refinishing   #paint

January 1st in our Southern California garden signals the time to cut back the roses. This forces them into dormancy, giving them a chance to rest, and also ensures that the spring bloom will be spectacular while the bushes themselves stay tidy and manageable.   #calabasas   #gardendesign

You have to make uglier before you can make pretty!
But honestly, making progress always looks beautiful to me.
Wait till you see what we have in store for this former circa 1990 kitchen!

Suzanne Kasler We love to see something other than the usual suspects show up in the expected places - like your fabulous Morris Lanterns above this kitchen island. The silhouette and repetition are brilliant!

Such a fabulous photo of these Morris Lanterns! Regram from @owensanddavis#suzannekasler #kitchen #designwelove #circalighting — with Owens + Davis and Suzanne Kasler.

We are off and running - 2015 awaits our shaping heart emoticon
I love this time of year when the slate is wiped clean and we begin a whole new year. I always feel like fresh wave of energy has washed over me, full of exciting possibility. With that said, I wanted to share one of my favorite tools for inspiration with you - it's the website HOUZZ. Perhaps you've already heard of it?

According to Wikipedia, Houzz is a website and online community about architecture, interior design and decorating, landscape design and home improvement. But, I like to think of it as Facebook for your home, with over 3 million photos to inspire and thousands of designs pros to connect with. If you're considering any kind of home improvement, Houzz is a great place to start. Go there and create your own page and let the dreaming and scheming begin. While there, you can follow Interior Archaeology and ask us, as well as other design professionals, your questions. Houzz is an amazing tool and resource that we hope you'll enjoy this year.

Don't forget to follow us... hope to see you there!http://www.houzz.com/pro/interiorarchaeology/__public

The excitement mounts as our latest project begins to take form. This master bath is taking its cues from the 1930's with rosewood vanities and dashing black and white. Smart, tailored and oh so elegant!

I so love everything about this kitchen. And not just because I could see my stacks of 1930's Fire-King going so well in it! The vintage elements and stripped down simplicity have a timeless and ever-so-smart appeal. When storage considerations allow, I will often choose to design minimal upper cabinetry, finding that I value - even more than extra storage, the resulting spaciousness as this kitchen so beautifully shows off.
