The truth is citizen journalism is much welcomed for it has made journalism more transparent , clear and accountable wherein corrupt higher authorities can be ignored momentarily. Being from the journalism field , I prefer citizen journalism to traditional media.

Sochi Olympics according to... the Russian media

Unprecedented levels of security are being implemented around Sochi, the host city of 2014 Winter Olympics, with some 37,000 staff on combat alert. However, according to the latest poll conducted by +RT  the Kremlin-funded TV channel, 48% of people are looking forward to a high-class sporting event but less than a third expect security troubles. Are the Russian people right to trust in their security forces? Tell us what you think!

Was the Associated Press right to fire award-winning photographer who photoshopped Syria photo?

Absolutely, argues the Guardian, following news that Narciso Contreras, the award winning photographer, edited out another photographer's camera from a shot: 'major wire agencies and their clients rely on their images being totally authentic'. http://bit.ly/1itn2KB Do you agree?

Francois Hollande Affair: how France plays by its own rules

Following revelations of an alleged affair, a British or US politician would be told to show contrition, or resign. Not in France, argues Jonathan Freedland. Strikingly, Francois Hollande’s ratings have improved by two points. Can Hollande easily get away with his adultery in the country of love and romance? http://bit.ly/1j5nnDm

Seems OK for the French press to pry into the private lives of British royals when on holiday. One rule for the natives, another for those uncouth Anglo Saxons?

Has Martin Luther King's Dream Been Realised?

Today, America's first black president sits in the White House, yet more African-Americans are on probation, parole or in prison than there were slaves in 1850. Are Muslims now the new targets of racism post-9/11? Re-visit our debate on Dr King's legacy from August 2013 http://bit.ly/172Qpbm Tell us what you think!

If you break the law you will be put in prison. It is illegal to judge a person by race in the US. The African-Americans who are on probation, on parole or are in prison have been judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. MLK's dream has been realised.
That is not to say that the children of imprisoned AAs will necessarily have bad characters.

Introducing: Our new debate...and a new look

We're delighted to announce that tomorrow night we'll be hosting a debate on the future of journalism with +ITV News. It's called "Smartphone journalism: the changing face of news" and we'll have a selection of the worlds' leading journalists and commentators holding forth, including Will Self and Paul Conroy. The debate will be streamed live on this page from 6.45pm (UK time) - we hope you can tune in.

Important announcement number two: we’re changing our page name to Intelligence Squared

Since 2011 the Versus events have been an important part of Intelligence Squared's work, with fantastic debates on Hip Hop, the War on Drugs and drones to name a few. The Versus format has worked brilliantly for bringing world experts together on the most provocative  and important topics of the day, and we’ll continue to use it. But to ensure that we can focus all our attention on one page rather than two, and so that we can make our home on G+ as engaging and easy to find as possible, we're bringing all our events under the Intelligence Squared banner.

We hope you continue to enjoy watching, debating and commenting on this page.

From the Intelligence Squared team

The Sochi Olympics according to... the Western media

If the recent deluge of reports from US and UK news outlets are accurate, any Brit or American travelling to the Sochi games take their lives in their own hands. Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee, has even called the Sochi security threat ‘the greatest he has ever seen’. However, Russian officials look pretty confident and keep saying that Sochi is the safest place this winter http://cnn.it/1giMP8i Is the western media's coverage heavy handed? Or are they just stating the facts? Tell us what you think

Ariel Sharon: a sanguinary soldier or a genuine peace-seeker?

Ariel Sharon, who died on Saturday after eight years in a coma, was one of Israel's most iconic and controversial figures. In this article Avi Shlaim argues that during the 2001 elections campaign Sharon tried to reinvent himself as a man of peace. Shlaim asks whether ardent Jewish nationalist and an 'Arab-hater' (his words) can be seen as a genuine peace-seeker?http://bit.ly/1axUnzt What do you think?

+Carlos Ochoa +Farouq Obaidi War and conflict are real life matters. World is not a drama or love story to be taught and controlled. So, the solution is not that easy. There are beliefs and anti-beliefs, states and enmity, ethnic groups and vested interests.  I believe, real leadership goes through war and peace, negotiation and gun to reach the objective. What matter most is objective of leaders. Those who do not have any objective, they face difficult conditions.
