"I love beer. I recently marked out a route for an InterRail trip which was based almost entirely on regional beer. The lad in me says “Quality! Wonder if I can fit in a cheeky Nando’s…” The adult in me suggests I might have a problem."

"This little cutie-pie only grows up to two centimetres long, and looks a lot like a little bunny because of its 'pointy ears' and 'fluffy tail'."
Slugs aren't normally known for their cuteness but recently, this Jorunna parva, which is a species of sea slug, has risen to fame because of its ability to make even the toughest of people melt because of its sweetness.

"The balls are believed to have been made between the years 600 and 1000 AD by a culture that was wiped out by the Spanish conquest, so nobody’s exactly sure how they came to be."
Known locally as Las Bolas, which literally means The Balls, these rather obscure sculptures can be found, in the Diquis Delta, southern Costa Rica.

"There are more than 200 species of anglerfish but I thought the humpback anglerfish was pretty ugly – quite literally a face only a mother could love."
About 71% of the Earth's surface is covered in water, making the seas and oceans the largest habitats on earth. The deep sea (defined as below 200 metres in depth) is still largely unexplored. Living in the deep sea without sunlight, and with extreme pressure and temperatures of below five degrees Celsius is pretty bleak. Due to these conditions deep-sea animals have had to evolve in some bizarre ways to survive. So here are a few of my favourite...

"It is believed that Zvyozdochkin and Malutin got the idea from a Japanese nesting doll. Although the idea was similar, Zvyozdochkin and Malutin decided to put a Russian spin on the concept, with the dolls wearing traditional Russian outfits."
When we travel, a most of us will bring home a small souvenir to remind us of our time away. One of the most popular souvenirs bought by tourists in Russia are Russian nesting dolls, or matryoshka dolls.

Hannah works in our underwriting team, and you can hear her talking about Iceland's obsession with elves in our latest radio ads!
26% of Icelanders believe elves definitely exist. Not only that, but a further 80% think there's a chance they might exist - incredible!

"Calimocho is red wine, the cheap stuff – thankfully – mixed with coke. Just let that sink in for a moment. It’s one thing to mix it with lemonade, it’s quite another to mix it with coke."
Let's talk about Spanish drinks, shall we? No, not sangria. I'm not sure if anyone actually drinks sangria in Spain. I've never seen it being drunk by anyone other than tourists, but if you know different, let me know!

"Zeus’ parents, the Titans Cronus and Rhea, had several children together – Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon. But to keep the costs of childcare down (or because someone told him he'd be overthrown by his own children), Cronus simply swallowed his children whole as they were born."
If you're anything like me, you like to soak up as much sun and culture on holiday as possible. Greece is a wonderful place to get your fill of both, so grab your suncream and I'll fill you in on all the crazy things about Greek gods they forgot to tell you about at school.

"I like to think of it as a kind of exotic Stonehenge, like if Stonehenge went on a gap year and 'found itself'."
When I first heard someone talk about the Gate of the Sun, I thought maybe a hipster psychedelia band had dropped a new album. Or perhaps it was the name of an art installation at Burning Man Festival #socool. It turns out it actually literally might be a gate to the Sun...

You're more likely to be killed by coconuts, champagne corks, tripping over, cows, ladders, vending machines and being left-handed than you are by sharks.
I've always been fascinated with the oceans, and sharks have captured my imagination like no other creature of the deep, with the exception of Cthulhu. But as he (probably) doesn't exist, here are some fascinating shark facts which may make you reconsider your ideas about them.

"Every year on June 21st at 5pm, the sunlight streams through the rose-shaped window at the front of the cathedral of San Sabino. It projects on to the marble floor in front of the altar, perfectly matching up with the design of the floor."
Well, it's all downhill from now, isn't it? Last weekend, we had the longest day of the year. It was grey and cloudy; daylight hours well spent, then! Let's hope it wasn't cloudy in the Italian city of Bari, though.

Meet Jordan. He works in our sales team, he wrote this post about Argentina's obsession with steak, and you can hear him talking about it in one of our new radio ads.
A friend of mine just got back from Buenos Aires and all he could talk about was having the best steak of his life. It’s not what I was expecting either, I must admit. They really do love their steak in Argentina though, and we're here to tell you why.

Never ever use this company. They are shocking. They only told me my policy was single trip after I tried to make a claim. NOWHERE in my policy does it say Single Trip. I have the receipt to show you if you wish to see it. Stay far away. They are only after your money and will not help you. I am now abroad and with no travel insurance as it became void and they did nothing to help me when they told me this. NEVER USE THEM THEY WILL RUIN YOUR TRIP!!

Their Travel Insurance policies are a CON - do not buy! I purchased travel insurance with InsureAndGO for a weekend trip, my flights were cancelled due to an Air Controller strike... This cost me a lot of money as I lost return flights, car rental, hotel, etc. I had purchased a full policy with InsureAndGo but when I tried to claim they said this was my own fault for not checking beforehand for an organised strike.. They make it easy to buy a policy with them but make it as difficult as possible to contact them if you need to make a claim - Check Google other people have also complained of them doing the same thing!
