"I like to think of it as a kind of exotic Stonehenge, like if Stonehenge went on a gap year and 'found itself'."
When I first heard someone talk about the Gate of the Sun, I thought maybe a hipster psychedelia band had dropped a new album. Or perhaps it was the name of an art installation at Burning Man Festival #socool. It turns out it actually literally might be a gate to the Sun...

You're more likely to be killed by coconuts, champagne corks, tripping over, cows, ladders, vending machines and being left-handed than you are by sharks.
I've always been fascinated with the oceans, and sharks have captured my imagination like no other creature of the deep, with the exception of Cthulhu. But as he (probably) doesn't exist, here are some fascinating shark facts which may make you reconsider your ideas about them.

"Every year on June 21st at 5pm, the sunlight streams through the rose-shaped window at the front of the cathedral of San Sabino. It projects on to the marble floor in front of the altar, perfectly matching up with the design of the floor."
Well, it's all downhill from now, isn't it? Last weekend, we had the longest day of the year. It was grey and cloudy; daylight hours well spent, then! Let's hope it wasn't cloudy in the Italian city of Bari, though.

Meet Jordan. He works in our sales team, he wrote this post about Argentina's obsession with steak, and you can hear him talking about it in one of our new radio ads.
A friend of mine just got back from Buenos Aires and all he could talk about was having the best steak of his life. It’s not what I was expecting either, I must admit. They really do love their steak in Argentina though, and we're here to tell you why.

We used a toucan in one of our TV ads. So here's a little bit about toucans, including how they they don't topple over with those massive beaks and where in the world you can find them:
We've got a few TV ads on at the moment and we've had some really good feedback, so we've started to write about the things we feature on them.

"The Japanese consider green tea to be more than just a drink; it is woven into the very fabric of everyday life. The Japanese culture even has a 'tea ceremony' known as chanoyu or sencha, where the host considerately prepares and presents their guests with matcha, green tea."
Like many Brits, I simply cannot function properly in the morning until I've had at least two cups of this caffeinated nectar.

"There are more than 200 species of anglerfish but I thought the humpback anglerfish was pretty ugly – quite literally a face only a mother could love."
About 71% of the Earth's surface is covered in water, making the seas and oceans the largest habitats on earth. The deep sea (defined as below 200 metres in depth) is still largely unexplored. Living in the deep sea without sunlight, and with extreme pressure and temperatures of below five degrees Celsius is pretty bleak. Due to these conditions deep-sea animals have had to evolve in some bizarre ways to survive. So here are a few of my favourite...

"It is believed that Zvyozdochkin and Malutin got the idea from a Japanese nesting doll. Although the idea was similar, Zvyozdochkin and Malutin decided to put a Russian spin on the concept, with the dolls wearing traditional Russian outfits."
When we travel, a most of us will bring home a small souvenir to remind us of our time away. One of the most popular souvenirs bought by tourists in Russia are Russian nesting dolls, or matryoshka dolls.

Hannah works in our underwriting team, and you can hear her talking about Iceland's obsession with elves in our latest radio ads!
26% of Icelanders believe elves definitely exist. Not only that, but a further 80% think there's a chance they might exist - incredible!

According to food critic Wolfgang Fassbender, “the biggest challenge when eating #‎surströmming  is to vomit only after the first bite, as opposed to before”.
Surströmming is a dish from Sweden that really doesn't sound very appetising at all. First off, "surströmming" is Swedish for "soured herring". So if you thought herring was stinky enough as it is, this is soured herring.

"Despite being #Burma's new capital city for almost 10 years, much of Naypyidaw is still a ghost town. Judging by the photos I've seen, rush hour on the city's 20-lane highways seems to consist of two women with brooms and a man on a rickety bicycle."
Our capital city is London and, at the moment, everyone seems to be OK with that. There aren't currently any plans to move it somewhere else. Although, I suppose we'll have to wait to find out who the new mayor's going to be before we make any assumptions. But a country suddenly moving their capital city elsewhere isn't completely unheard of - it's exactly what they did in Burma almost a decade ago.

"One of the videos we've been using in our TV adverts since last year is a lovely train, slowly moving along a track. We knew it was pretty, and that it captured the serene feeling you get when you’re on holiday somewhere pretty, but we didn't know just how popular it was going to be!"

Never ever use this company. They are shocking. They only told me my policy was single trip after I tried to make a claim. NOWHERE in my policy does it say Single Trip. I have the receipt to show you if you wish to see it. Stay far away. They are only after your money and will not help you. I am now abroad and with no travel insurance as it became void and they did nothing to help me when they told me this. NEVER USE THEM THEY WILL RUIN YOUR TRIP!!

Their Travel Insurance policies are a CON - do not buy! I purchased travel insurance with InsureAndGO for a weekend trip, my flights were cancelled due to an Air Controller strike... This cost me a lot of money as I lost return flights, car rental, hotel, etc. I had purchased a full policy with InsureAndGo but when I tried to claim they said this was my own fault for not checking beforehand for an organised strike.. They make it easy to buy a policy with them but make it as difficult as possible to contact them if you need to make a claim - Check Google other people have also complained of them doing the same thing!
