Absolutely love IR images.  Did you get a conversion?  What's the IR cut off?

Great news for all Sony A7RII photographers!

Today's Lightroom update fixes the known noise issues with long exposures shot in the Sony A7RII.

https://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2015/10/lightroom-cc-2015-2-now-available.html#comments

For some reason, Adobe does not mention any word about that fix on their website.

If you're shooting Sony A7R cameras, have you noticed this as well?

Sky On Fire

Yesterday here in Naples, FL...
I was actually just location scouting the beach for the fullmoon set and was not expecting anything spectacular to happen as it seemeed to be just a very dull and gray sunset when finally the sky went on fire and exploded in different shades of purple and pink.

A7R II and Long Exposure noise

There have been many discussions about long exposure noise issues with the Sony A7R II but it seems those problems are related to Adobe's Camera RAW engine.

See attached screenshot of a comparison between Capture One (Left) and Adobe Lightroom CC (Right). I increased the exposure by 2 stops and pushed the shadow slider to the max in both apps. What you see is a 400% view of the same image showing a huge difference in how those 2 applications handle the noise making Capture One the clear winner or Lightroom the big looser.

I hope Adobe is going to fix this ASAP as it will otherwise become unusable with the A7R II.

What is your experience with long exposure noise with the A7R II in Lightroom vs Capture One?

Is it typical to Sony's sensors or does it apply to other ones, like Canon ?

The DSLR Bubble is about burst... or isn't it?

In early 2012 (https://plus.google.com/+IngoMeckmann/posts/bzw2pr9E4Lk), I predicted the end of the DSLR in 2015 and here we are now and I think the end is near...

I've been shooting Canon SLR's exclusively (except for my love for Leica's...) since I bought my first SLR back in 1991. I bought my first DSLR  - the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT - in 2005, upgraded to the 5D Mark II in 2008 and finally bought the 5D Mark III in 2012. I've been waiting for a successor for some time now but I didn't want to upgrade to the 1D series due to its gigantic size and the new 5DS series could not convince me plus I didn't see anything new and exciting on the horizon from Canon...

I therefore decided after lots of research to jump onto to the Sony bandwagon - like many Canon photographers before me - and bought the A7R II. I got the body just a few days ago and have yet to shoot my first frame with a native Sony FE lens but luckily there is an easy way to use my large array of Canon lenses thanks to the Metabones adapter. So far I'm really surprised (end excited) by the in-body stabilization and pleasantly surprised by the AF performance of some lenses that seem to work quite well in good light while others don't focus at all but thanks to Sony peaking manual focus aid and my experience with manual focussing from the Leica body, I was able to achieve some interesting results like this soap bubble with a reflection of our house. I will certainly publish more once I get the Sony glass...

It would be great to have 3 strong competitors in the professional camera producer's market but I don't believe that Canon will be among them if they don't step up their game immediately but it might be too late already as Sony is really pushing it plus Nikon has been releasing the much better DSLR bodies in the last few years - the only exception is probably the 1D-X but I doubt that this type of high-end sports camera is enough to keep Canon in the game for much longer. I wouldn't be surprised if we start hearing talks about Canon being the next Kodak... What do you think?

+Carsten Schlipf the lack of native glasses isn't really the case anymore and I don't think they are going to offer f/2.8 zooms simply due to size and weight. The 70-200 f/4 performs really well and the bokeh at f/4 looks really nice plus the added ISO performance makes up for that stop easily. The battery life was one of my biggest fears initially but I think they did a really good compromise by providing 2 batteries plus the best feature is that you can charge the camera over USB while you operate it which I think is genius.
