I like that - "... the story is a testament to ingenuity, creativity and not giving up when your ice drill is too narrow (a problem I’m sure we’ll all face at some point)".

Twin Falls

I had a fun 14 hours shooting day with +Johan Peijnenburg last week and this was my favorite picture. We found that waterfall at the very end of the Muotatal valley in central Switzerland where we probably looked like aliens with our baseball hats and... ok, no more details.

I had to do a little climbing and it was quite a balance act to keep the tripod and myself somehow steady on some giant boulders.

Size Matters

It was pouring rain and I was hoping for fog but at the end I was quite pleased with the clouds and how the valley on the other side of the lake (that's where I live, btw) balance the composition.

I first tried to shoot it without an ND grad but to keep details in the highlights I had to sacrifice shadow details in the foreground so I put a 1-stop ND grad in front of the big stopper (10 stops) to get a 4 minute exposure at f/13 and ISO 50 that gave me enough light on the dark rock without blowing out the bright clouds in the back.

This is Lake Zug (Zugersee) in Immensee, Switzerland

6 Minutes

Yep, that's how long it took to capture this picture. Actually, it was 12 minutes but that's just for the photo geeks and they will know what I'm talking about.

I'm not too crazy about the clouds but we couldn't get anything better that day in Brunnen, Switzerland at Lake Lucerne and staying longer wasn't really an option as +Johan Peijnenburg would have turned into a human red-light despite layers of suncream... :)

In a forest, not far, far away from home...

I love my 17mm T/S lens a lot but until yesterday, I wasn't able to use it for long-exposures. If you look at the beast you know why - it has this gigantic dome of glass in front that makes it (almost) impossible to screw any types of filters to it.

Luckily, #LeeFilters  has this giant adapter ring ($$$$) that let's you use the Lee filter system on that lens and that's exactly what I found in the box that UPS delivered yesterday.

I've been using a combination of screw-on filters and the Coqin system in the past and had some issues with big stoppers (light leaks, color shifts, etc.) so I decided to bite the bullet and invest into Lee. The only thing missing is the 105mm screw on polarizer that nobody seems to have on stock.

I just did a few tests yesterday but so far I'm very pleased with the handling, built-quality land optical quality of the entire product range.

This is a very serious security threat!

I'm certainly not going to login to my e-banking systems until those banks have patched their servers.
SSL major security leak

have a look at and update your system. Otherwise the bad guys could read the memory of the servers and get your keys:

"The Heartbleed bug allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the names and passwords of the users and the actual content. This allows attackers to eavesdrop on communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users."

I have informed my bank which i use for online-banking that their server is open to this bug. Unfortunately they think i'm crazy.
So dear +Credit Suisse please update your servers, they are affected by this bug too. You can test yourself via or
