Thank you Westar Energy, Brightergy, and everyone that helped make this happen. June 16th, 2015 marked the installation of the 10 kW ground-mounted solar array that powers our Fab Lab ICC. While the project will provide Westar with research and development data for solar as a future energy source in Southeast Kansas, it will also act as an instructional device for students and the community. With the solar array we will be adding photovoltaic curriculum modules to five different curricula on campus: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, K-12 fabrication/design, public fabrication/design, and K-12 summer science programs.

ICC, as of June 2015,  has been accepted as a member of the United Nations Academic Impact organization. This recognizes and reflects the values and principles encouraged and supported here at ICC, especially with the new Green Campus Initiative, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution certificate program, and global education. "The goal is to have our students see themselves as part of a whole," said Konye Ori, associate professor of Communication Studies. "We can inspire a new generation of problem solvers and leaders." ‪#‎BeAPirate‬ http://bit.ly/1dhi978

Congratulations, Karen Carpenter on being named William Inge Center for the Arts new Artistic Director! This visionary, creative artist brings with her 30 years of directing, producing, and teaching experience. And we cannot wait to see how she applies it to the direction of the Inge's theatrical productions.

This past August we opened up the first fab lab within a Kansas community college, where we are one of fewer than 200 MIT chartered labs. And now we are in the process of enhancing the Fab Lab with a 10 kW solar array to offset 100% of the facility's average energy consumption, making us the only fab lab in the United States to be powered by solar power. And with the installation of the solar arrays we will be able to include photovoltaic projects and demonstrations to the curricula.
