Industry-ME March/April 2013 Edition 

At the time of writing, the Dubai Racing Carnival at Meydan is well underway and building up towards the evening of the Dubai World Cup in March.

Whilst the eyes of the sporting world will be fixed on Dubai on that date, Dubai is set to be the centre of attention in 2020 on a much bigger scale.

Burj Khalifa: Majesty and luxury in the world’s tallest building

 Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa, developed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest building and described as a ‘Global Icon’ by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, an honour bestowed on tall structures only once in 10 or 15 years.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation: Changes afoot at Kuwait International Airport

The aviation sector continues to enjoy above average growth across the Middle East. In October of last year, the region experienced 14 per cent year-on-year growth in passenger traffic – much higher than the global average of 6.9 per cent, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

ADPC on its mission to diversify Abu Dhabi’s economy

“The maritime industry in the GCC region is growing significantly. We are currently experiencing a shift from a region of developed economies to a region of new emerging markets, and ADPC is actively taking part in it”, says Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Acting CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC). The fully government owned organization, headquartered in the north eastern part of the emirate - next to Zayed Port, was created in 2006 as part of the restructuring of the ports sector in Abu Dhabi and was given management control and regulatory enforcement power over all of the non-oil commercial and leisure ports.
