July 26 marks the 17th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas. On July 26, 1999 the Indian armed forces defeated the Pakistani intruders at the heights of Batalik, Kargil and Dras sectors in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state.
Victory in the war came at a heavy price with 527 soldiers killed and over 1700 injured. Among those killed 20 were officers, 23 were Junior Commissioned Officers and 475 were Jawans.

Kedarnath Temple, a Shiva temple, is on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand. The temple, at an height of 3,583 m , 223 km from Rishikesh, on the shores of Mandakini river.
The structure is believed to have been constructed in the 8th century CE, when Adi Shankara visited. It stands on a plateau surrounded by snow clad mountain and glaciers.

All the five Indian students who participated in the International Physics Olympiad 2016, held in Switzerland's Zurich city last week, have won medals — 3 golds and 2 silvers. The students have been felicitated at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education in Mumbai, Maharashtra. A total of 398 students from 84 countries had taken part in the Olympiad.

Nalanda University was the first great university in recorded history and one of the world's first residential university. In its heyday, it accommodated over 10,000 students and 2,000 teachers. Originally the university was established in 5th century AD by Gupta Kings. It was destroyed in a war in 1197, when it was just the same time that Oxford was being established and Cambridge had not yet been born.
Another feather has been added to the cap of India's heritage recognition as Nalanda University has been added to the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
