As soon as you start a goal, you could schedule 3 or 4 weeks vacation (first week is flat goal if I recall correctly? Vacations take a week to kick in). Set the weekly goal to .25 You will have an entire month until you derail. Or you could enter data 1 to start off with. You could challenge yourself to read 2 books within the first month so your count is accurate.
Part of Beeminder is the concept that small, continuous action accumulates into big goals. Frequent "Beeminders" help keep some people on track, or they can be really annoying :) Eitherway, if you set a month buffer, you won't have those reminders.
