Want to make Babies Less Anxious? Play Some Music
=================================================
The #soothingeffectofmusic is well-established. Since music can attract our attention, it acts as a distraction and helps explore emotions. Therefore, it is a great aid to meditation, preventing the mind from wandering. Listening to music has an extremely relaxing effect resulting in lowering of blood pressure, slowing of the pulse and heart rate, and reduction in the #levelsofstresshormones like cortisol. Thus, music functions as an important stress management tool. The #formandstructureofmusic is known to bring order and security to distressed and disabled children. In this study, music was found to reduce the levels of #anxietyinbabies aged 0-3 years during ear examination.@ http://hospital-medical-management.imedpub.com/background-music-used-to-reduce-anxiety-ininfants-during-an-ear-examination.pdf

Is the Thyroid another Victim of Diabetes?
======================================================
Abnormal concentrations of #TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) are associated with #diabetes. It has also been identified that the overall prevalence of thyroid disease is the highest in females suffering from type-1 diabetes, and lowest in males suffering from type-2 diabetes. Such a deregulation might affect the #metaboliccontrol adversely and make the already liable diabetics more risk prone. Diabetes has also been associated with the development of new #thyroiddisease, with subclinical hypothyroidism being the most common, closely followed by #hypothyroidism. These patients might be associated with reduced #insulinsensitivity or #glucoseintolerance. This paper comments on the nexus between diabetes and thyroid disease.@ http://www.imedpub.com/articles/is-the-thyroid-gland-another-victm-of-diabetes-mellitus.php?aid=21895

Comparative Analysis of #SurgicalInterventions for Hypersplenism
====================================================
The spleen acts as a reservoir of blood cells, especially the white blood cells and platelets. #Hypersplenism is a condition characterized by splenomegaly, cytopenia, increased medullar cellularity, and elevated cellular turnover. The causes of hypersplenism might include infiltrative diseases of the spleen, an increased demand for splenic function, and splenic congestion because of #portalhypertension. This study compared three different treatments for hypersplenism: splenic artery embolization, open splenectomy, and laparoscopic splenectomy for treating hypersplenism with respect to safety, efficacy, and complications. #Laparoscopicsplenectomy was identified as being better amongst the three surgical interventions.@ http://hospital-medical-management.imedpub.com/evaluation-of-three-methods-oftreatment-of-hypersplenism.php?aid=21562

Effect of the Gut Microbiota on the Development of Mucosal T-cells- A Review
========================================================
There is increasing evidence regarding the role of #gutmicrobiota in #colorectalcancer. Several studies have identified a crosstalk between the gut microbiota and the mucosal T-cells, especially the intraepithelial lymphocytes and the lamina propria CD4+ T-cells. This might be responsible for the development of colorectal cancer by the creation of an imbalance between the pro- and anti-inflammatory immune cells and cytokines. This review focuses on the influence of the gut microbiota on the development of #mucosalTcells and their contribution in the promotion of colorectal cancer.@ http://colorectal-cancer.imedpub.com/interplay-between-gut-microbiota-and-t-lymphocytes-in-colorectal-cancer.php?aid=20755

Required- A More Robust Tool for the Identification of Cognitive Dysfunction
======================================================
The best tool for assessing the mental status of an individual is the Mini Mental State Examination (#MMSE) which based on the individual’s response to 11 questions which measure #cognitivefunction in five areas: attention and calculation, orientation, recall, registration, and language. As the MMSE takes only 5-10 minutes to perform, it is practical to use MMSE during routine check-ups. However, recent studies demonstrated that the measurement of #alteredmentalstatus (AMS) by registered nurses (RNs) is subject to inconsistencies. This paper advocates the employment of more consistent tools for the measurement of AMS by nurses.@ http://hospital-medical-management.imedpub.com/why-mental-status-standards-arerecommended-on-medical-surgicalunits-in-hospitals.php?aid=19740

Trends in #PhysicianPractice- A Review
=====================================================
As the global #healthcareindustry shifts toward a more value based paradigm, all sectors of healthcare are scrambling to adapt. There has been an enormous consolidation of medical practices across the landscape of the healthcare industry. Many practices are being brought under the umbrella of #hospitalsystems and #integrateddeliverynetworks (IDNs) in order to lay the groundwork for #economiesofcare in healthcare organizations. A common goal amongst all such systems is to achieve a decent cost-to-benefit ratio between cost and quality. As opposed to yesteryear’s solo and two-physician practices, today’s physicians are increasingly working within group practice settings in mid-sized, single-specialty groups. This review talks about all such trends in the healthcare industry.@ http://hospital-medical-management.imedpub.com/physician-group-practice-trends-a-comprehensive-review.php?aid=9343

Pancreatic Beta Cell Consortium- Unraveling the Mechanisms Underlying Diabetes
=========================================================
The beta cells of the pancreas play a central role in diabetes. In #type1diabetes, an autoimmune response against these cells leads to their destruction, whereas in #type2diabetes these cells are unable to respond to insulin. A team of diabetes specialists from across the globe have created a detailed 3-D model of #pancreaticbetacells in order to understand the development of diabetes. Currently, the #PancreaticBetaCellConsortium comprises of about 50 scientists, engineers, clinicians, and digital artists, who are aiming at completing the project in five years. The consortium intends to identify all the components of the beta cells are and analyze how they are all interlinked.@ http://clinical-and-molecular-endocrinology.imedpub.com/a-simply-way-to-generate-pancreatic-beta-cell-formation-in-vivo-through-cellular-networking-integration-and-processing.php?aid=10551

Treatment, Diagnosis, and Screening of Endometrial Cancer- A Review
=========================================================
In spite of the long history of #endometrialcancer and the huge efforts being undertaken in cancer research, it is still difficult to identify true #precancerouslesions. Therefore, prevention of endometrial cancer is very difficult; screening is controversial. Diagnosis of #endometrialcancer is still dependent on curettage and histopathology. This review of literature curates the various methods of #diagnosis, screening, and treatment of endometrial carcinoma.@ http://www.imedpub.com/articles/screening-diagnosis-and-therapy-of-endometrial-carcinoma-a-look-at-controversies.php?aid=21089

Seropositivity for West Nile Virus in #MyastheniaGravis
=========================================================
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an #autoimmunedisease which affects neuromuscular transmission. This occurs due to the presence of #autoantibodies against #acetylcholinereceptors (anti-AChRs), which impair neuromuscular transmission. The exact cause of MG remains unknown. Though, one hypothesis suggests that the condition might be triggered by a virus or any pathogen that has a structure similar to that of the AChR. Recent studies have reported the development of MG following #WestNileVirus (WNV) infection in a group of individuals without any prior indication of MG. This study screened for #WNV-Ab in patients affected by MG and found 23% seropositivity for WNV antibodies.@ http://autoimmunediseases.imedpub.com/updates-in-seropositivity-for-west-nile-virus-antibodies-in-myasthenia-gravis.php?aid=19890

The Role of Hospital Equipment in the Transmission of Hospital Acquired MRSA
==============================================================
Hospital acquired infections are among the leading causes of patient mortality in the United States. According to the CDC, nearly 1.7 million patients acquire an infection during their stay at a hospital, 99,000 of who succumb to infection. One of the most important #hospitalacquiredinfections is methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). In addition to the human component, environmental contamination also plays an essential role in the spread of #MRSA; S.aureus has been cultured from hospital mattresses, trolleys, mops, and the gloves and gowns belonging to the health care workers. Other equipment like catheters, IV lines, and chest tubes are also known to be carriers of staph in certain cases.@ http://hospital-medical-management.imedpub.com/staphylococcus-aureus-surfacecolonization-of-medical-equipment-andenvironment-implication-in-hospitalcommunity-epidemiology.php?aid=19547
