I'll Be Honest

The peace of God is that which flows like a river; in that it is unending, refreshing, and life-giving. Paul calls us to "not be anxious about anything", but to pray and "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Somebody can be adopted and not really recognize what that is. They're children that don't ever find out they are adopted, or sometimes till later in life. We don't get far enough if we think about adoption, if it doesn't lead us to be amazed and to wonder and be in awe at God.  The Lord is looking for our minds to perceive the wonderful truths about God and for inside of us to have a welling up and appreciation towards God.

Many Reformed theologians consider adoption to be the very highest privilege that the Gospel offers. Yet, it seems that the church has historically neglected this doctrine. This sermon is an attempt to bring Christians face to face with the precious truth that God not only acquits the sinner of his sin when he is saved, but brings the forgiven sinner into His own family.

The psalmist finds himself in a position we all commonly share at times. He is being slandered. His words and actions have been misrepresented and his character maligned... while affirming his innocence, he does not fail to consider the possibility of truth in the allegations against him. If we would be honest, then we have nothing to fear from objective examination. - Conrad Murrell

Man lost the greatest of all his privileges: beholding the face of God. Man’s sin hid the greatest Treasure of all from us. Man has been put out of the Garden where he walked with God and talked with God. Everything God has done for us in salvation takes us to this: Man once again before God…with absolutely nothing whatsoever left to hinder or stand in the way as an obstacle to fellowship with the Almighty.

The only safe way to live the Christian life is to be centered on Jesus and overflowing with gratitude. Those are two big safeguards in the Christian life; two ways to test ourselves, to see how safe we are against the world.

How then are the exploited poor to have hope of justice and deliverance? Let us say quickly, they will not have it in the way it is generally sought today. It will not be found by looking to society for sympathy. It will not be forthcoming from the politicians who hope to get your vote by promising you another government handout. It will not be achieved by passing more laws against honest work and personal responsibility. It will not come by public brawls, riots, demonstrations, looting and general hell-raising. Nor will it come by penalizing and punishing honest hard-working businessmen. All such undertakings simply testify that the poor are just as covetous, selfish and greedy as the rich. The only difference is they are somewhat less clever and somewhat more lazy. They will share the same hell as their oppressors. The true hope and sure confidence of the poor is in the Lord. Trust in Him. Do right, commit your heart, soul and well-being unto Him. He will surely prove Himself faithful and worthy of your worship. - Conrad Murrell

Out of that group in the cartel that I was in, there are only two of us that are alive today, everybody else is dead. I'm standing here before you talking to you about who has given me life, and the One who is life. It's Jesus Christ. - Héctor

The godly man confesses his vulnerability. He does not foolishly trust in his own strength or the strength of his allies. He well knows if he draws not his help from God there will be “none to deliver.” He makes the confession of the redeemed who, apart from the love of Christ, are “accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” - Conrad Murrell

Think of it, crippled Mephibosheth, he is probably being brought before David on a cart or carried in by others to the king's chamber. Not a very grand entry is it? Some feel like their sin is too shameful to come before Christ, and we need to say to them, "Christ will receive you! I know Presidents and CEO's who won't, but Christ will and He is infinitely greater than them!" In King David's response to crippled Mephibosheth, we see a picture of God's kindness and gentleness. In the same way, Jesus Christ calls crippled sinners to come and eat at His table all the days of their life.

Believer, pray to the Lord, "Give me grace to walk in no known sin today." How can we pray that with confidence? Because God's unlimited resources are available for the believer's holiness and conformity to Jesus Christ. He has chosen us to be holy and blameless before Him, and thus we can trust Him for the supply.

We are in this world but not of it. Our true government, our kingdom, is of another realm. And the success of our ministry does not depend upon the relative condition of the governments of this world. It depends upon the attendant blessings of our dear Lord by the power of the Holy Spirit on the preaching of the word of God, not current social and political conditions. - Conrad Murrell
Christian Government can properly be applied to only one thing: Church government, government among a body of people that are distinctly Christian.
