Rural Rain HD Professional Sound FX Library Released!

More than two years of recording has finally come to an end for this rain sound effects collection. Presenting Rural Rain HD Professional SFX Library. This is a unique collection of all natural rain tracks, nothing faked or staged, this is the real deal. Recorded at various locations in rural North Idaho this collection includes over 3 hours of interior and exterior perspectives.

Recording rain has it's challenges as many of you may know and one of the most difficult aspects of recording the sound of rain is getting clean, detailed recordings free of obtrusive noises like cars, planes, animals, humans etc. This library was painstakingly recorded in very quiet environments, sometimes at night or during the colder seasons of the year. The storms that passed through here during the last couple of years brought some terrific torrential downpours and beautiful steady showers. Thunder also makes an appearance in some of the tracks along with some birds, they do need a bath now and then.

A portion of the library is from spontaneous storms that caught me by surprise so I used a high quality hand held recorder (Sony PCM D100 - they come in very handy) to quickly get in position to capture the intense downpours and soft rainfall that would magically appear out of nowhere. Sometimes, using the Sony PCM D100 recorder was the only way to record the rain as it was easy to place and keep from getting wet. A majority of the remaining sounds were recorded with a MKH-8040ST microphone setup either in XY or ORTF of both.

I hope you enjoy this collection of rain sound effects, I very much enjoyed recording it as rain is one of my favorite sounds. When auditioning the sounds try and listen and lower volumes as these types of sounds tend to be used as ambient background layers. Just adjusting the volume can bring out different aspects in the character of the rain.

Welcome To New and Improved Website

A warm thanks to those who banged on the site during the re-launch yesterday! Bugs were fixed and other things buttoned up.

As you may have heard I have completly re-done The Recordist website with a new e-commerce system and theme. Some of you know that it's no easy task to rebuild a website from the ground up and boy, I have to say it was a time consuming process. My old website used a third party e-commerce shopping cart (DPD) that served me well for over five years. The guys that run DPD are wonderful and have a great set of tools for website shopping carts. Their system was not really build for WordPress and I had to hand code the data into a blog post and the rest is to boring to tell you.

This new system took over 9 months to complete. Long story short: All the products were re-entered and coded into the new e-commerce system website. The WAV files included in all product downloads were gone through with a fine tooth comb and had the metadata refined and the product artwork added for Soundminer users. (The artwork is also available on each product page) As with the previous website the files are delivered through the Amazon S3 network, this time mine not DPDs.

The most difficult part of this whole process was finding the right e-commerce theme. There are many out there and finding one that I thought was extremely functional, nice looking and easy to deploy was a nightmare. The other issue which seems to be the rage is whether the site is responsive or not. It seems the whole planet does most of it's internet stuff on smartphones and/or tablets so even though my old site was responsive and worked well I felt that a new look and feel was due. Having a responsive website is not required for sound effects websites but it sure helps when you just want to browse the sites while on a iPad or and iPhone while stuck in traffic. My website only has about 12 percent of it's traffic from mobile phones and tablets, the rest was desktops but I still thought a well done responsive site was the best way to go for now and into the future.

For sound effects library purchases made before the new site roll out: I have all the data from the last five years and if anyone would like a list of their purchases I can email it to you. I can add them to the new site but it's a matter of gifting your previous purchase to you under your account that you create at the new site. Possible but very time consuming. If anyone ever needs to re-download their libraries from my old (DPD) system let me know and I would be happy to assist you.

More to come soon on this transition in this blog post: http://therecordist.com/welcome-to-new-and-improved-website/

Check out the new site at: http://therecordist.com/

Still a discount available, details on the site.

Namaste -Frank

Introducing Suppressed Weapons HD Professional Sound Effects Library. The first of it's kind, this collection is dedicated to the sound of suppressed guns. Over a year and a half in the making, Stage One of this unique library of "silenced" gun sounds features eight of the finest, quietest and hottest looking suppressors on the market today. Recorded in a few very different locations and with up to 10 channels of audio, dry and urban style sounds were obtained. Close up, medium and distant perspectives were captured on most of the suppressors with the M&P 40 handgun being the only gun recorded from a very distant perspective.

I've decided to release this collection in two stages. Stage Two will include suppressors introduced to the market in the last year. These amazing "cans" as the gun folk call them, include the latest sound suppression technologies and advanced manufacturing processes known to man. The "cans" are on the way... The "Tax Stamp" wait can be frustrating but it is well worth it.

Producing this library has been a labor of love for me and I have had to re-think my recording techniques while recording these guns. Because of the lower SPL of the guns and the functional aspects of using subsonic ammunition I strived to acquire the cleanest and most unique sounds I could without Losing my mind. Some of these suppressors were so quiet that there was virtually no "report" from the gun shot. The mechanical noise from the gun and the bullet leaving the barrel is very apparent in most of the tracks. This makes for some fantastic "Gun Mech" style sounds that I hope you will find useful alone or combined with other gun sounds.

As with most of the gun sound effects collections available from The Recordist you get the source, processed and specially designed versions of all the suppressors. Also include are many photos and the trailer video for your enjoyment.

NO SUBSCRIPTION (EXTORTION) PLAN REQUIRED! If you are a license holder of Gunscapes HD Pro SFX you get the update FREE! Gunscapes HD Pro Xtension Released! Over 1GB of all new material for your sound designing pleasure! Enjoy! -Frank http://therecordist.com/gunscapes-hd-pro-sfx

It's here! The long awaited FREE update to Gunscapes HD Professional SFX Collection. Since the initial release of this crazy collection of gun sounds I have been out in the field recording all sorts of guns. The sessions were in various locations including some small and medium sized interior buildings. The "tails" produced by some of the exterior locations sound very urban with nice natural building reflections. I also recorded in a high mountain forest rock quarry located 15 miles from the nearest paved county road with no cell service and a few bears hanging around.

I wanted to push this update out as soon as possible and will be updating the website and audio demo with the new sounds and detailed information later today, March 24, 2015.

This update consists of 2 brand new ZIP files. If you previously purchased this collection there is no need to download the other zip files, they have not changed.

-Frank
