Reviewing Sleek's Bare Skin Foundation. How well does it last?
Recently I realised I'd be staying over at someone's house and I'd (shock horror) forgotten my make up bag. First world problems, right? Anyway. I wanted to see if I could put together a make up ki...

There's a spot of sci-fi in my +Friday Flash this week, with 'Don't Lose Your Head'.
I lie in my hospital bed, feeling the life slowly drain out of my body. It started in my toes and worked its way up my legs. Now I can't feel anything below my hips. This should worry me, or send m...

Sometimes you might find you have a plethora of ideas and not know which ones to pursue...other times you're scratching your head as you stare at a blank page. Surprisingly, one isn't better than the other - and here's why!
If you read any blogs about writing, or follow any writers on Twitter, then you’ll probably notice a lot of writers complain about having too many ideas. Too many ideas?! It’s hardly a complaint de...

This is certainly an interesting (and hi tech) way to look at story setting!
Write realistic story settings from draft one with these 3 setting design tools for writers. For a story so real, your readers will feel like they lived it.

This week I'm asking if creative rules systems can be useful to illustration, photography, writing or blogging.
Last week I talked about why having too many ideas can be as bad as having too few, but this week I want to continue the theme of 'Creativity' by looking at the value of creative rule systems. Stop...

My review of the Solstice Moondust eyeshadow by Urban Decay.
I'm a huge fan of Urban Decay, so when I saw their Moondust eyeshadow, I fancied giving it a go. The Moondust shadows have a strange consistency in that they feel like a cream but you apply them li...

I've set up a new makeup blog, and today I'm talking about the Arabian Nights palette by Sleek!
I bought the Arabian Nights palette by Sleek some time ago, and to be honest it's lain a little unused ever since I wrote a post about it last August. I've got so many palettes, sometimes I forget ...

Street art can certainly divide opinion but these are a wonderful addition to the urban landscape.
In cities where greenery can be scarce, these art installations call attention to everything from wall-climbing ivy to weeds growing out of sidewalk cracks, turning bushes into luscious manes or tr...

This is a fantastic use of perception.
In theater, the 'fourth wall' refers to the imaginary barrier between performers and their audience - the work of this illustrator evokes a kind of 'fifth wall', treating the sky above as invisible...

Introduction
Up here in the frozen north of England, I write Gothic and horror fiction, I knit and crochet, I analyse horror films, I make jewellery, and I take photos.

I write in several genres, but primarily Westerns and horror with a Gothic bent. I have two e-books available for 99c/70p, while my pulp Western, The Guns of Retribution, was released in September 2011. My latest release is a horror/fantasy novella called The Necromancer's Apprentice. It has a mummy horde in it.
