The learning and knowledge exchange team (my team) in UNICEF is looking to hire someone to work with us to document effective use case stories of the UNICEF Knowledge Exchange Communities (internal and external) that illustrate how communities contribute to UNICEF's work and good practices which should be replicated in other communities.

Starting in late June for a duration of up to 6 months. We're looking for an excellent writer/editor who has a good understanding of online communities.

See full details and apply online here: http://www.unicef.org/about/employ/?job=496234

Beware development geeks bearing gifts - my take on @ICT4DJester's book

Yes, this is another review, or perhaps more of a rumination on “Geek Heresy” by Kentaro Toyama (available on Amazon!) I’ve long been a fan of the ICT4DJester’s snarky tweets about ICT for Development (Toyama’s alter ego) and  have been looking forward to…

A flowering of approaches to complexity and development

We are an important juncture in development at the moment with the Sustainable Development Goals due to be finalized later this year, and with discussion now turning full swing into what needs to happen to make them a reality, including a lot of…

Ola Ian, Nice, we agree :-) However, I am very hesitant to copycat the 'IT thinking / practice' like agile. Again a quote, now from Stieglitz: 'scan global and re-invent local'. Indeed #development  is operating in #reality in the #complex and sharing the practice is one of the few mechanisms for progress. Looking forward to a reflection on the use of the new Wenger / Trayner framework UNICEF is going to experiment with. Cheers, Jaap

[new post] Kill the shared drive!

Late last year I went to the South Asia region to participate in a discussion on knowledge management. I talked briefly about what we are doing globally, and then each country gave an update about what they are doing – and what their priorities and…

Nice reading list on Doing Development Differently from my foresight colleagues
Doing Development Differently. [La version française se trouve plus bas.] [All text underlined is a link to reading or video] Following our “predictions 2015”, many of you reacted to the “growing tribe” engaged in doing development differently (DDD). We heard the message: some of you are fans, ...

[new post] A few thoughts about country knowledge management strategies

I was recently invited to participate (virtually of course) in a discussion of the UN country team in Mozambique on developing a UN Knowledge Management Strategy/Plan for the country. They had already done a good bit of preparatory work in looking at how…

I’ve been in a number of discussions lately with different programme sectors about how they can better document and share experience. There is both an interest from headquarters to “tell the story” of what we do and what works, and an appetite from our…

Finding up to date useful information about people in your organization can be challenging – Who is the social policy officer in Bolivia? Who speaks French and has worked on conflict prevention in west Africa? Who contributed to the position paper on HIV…

[new post] The blog is dead, long live the blog

(Image: StrategicRevolution.com) As you may have noticed. I’ve not been blogging much lately – It’s hard to find the time to blog in-depth on a topic, so I’m experimenting now with much shorter blog posts in an attempt to share more often. Appropriately…

[new post] Love the One you’re with (on using official software)

I think we have gotten quite used to assuming that our organizations will not provide the latest technology tools we need to do our jobs, and so if we want to get things done we will have to download or use free or even paid consumer software, even though…
