AntipodeanSF Issue 200, celebrating 17 years of flash fiction publication with 22 new stories and 22 flashbacks, is published on the web now.

Electronic reader versions available too.

Half a billion seconds ago it started. It was mid-1997 CE. A geek of a voracious, science-fiction-reading human, not much more than a gigasecond old himself, mused about the future of publication online. He considered how the fresh, shiny, slow internet might become the ultimate leveller. He hoped that it would eventually become widespread on faster computers, better than flickering displays, and wider than plain-old-telephone-system data pipelines. He’d been using computers since 1974. They were tools — surely to be put to good use. And what better use than radical reading?
This bespectacled man also mused about the great speculative stories and ideas that never see publication, and the authors that write them — and added a dash of an awakening notion that resistance is not futile, that it’s refreshing and important to turn plots, ideas, milieus, and characters upside down. To make them Antipodean, if you like — and to keep it all free.
Well, it was something like that, and more.
A website was born from the tips of that man’s keyboard-pounding fingers, and now, thousands of stories and contributors later, it’s time to post Issue 200.
That man, of course, is me.
There are people to thank, a multitude of them. The contributors, for a start — in this issue all names past. Twenty-two authors, twenty-two stories, with flashbacks to their first publication in these virtual pages.
Along with contributors, I cannot forget all of those that help behind the scenes in the production of AntipodeanSF magazine online, e-publication, and radio show. Thank you all.
Similarly, sincere thanks to everybody in the antipodean speculative community, for you are one of the most open and friendly groups I know, albeit at a physical distance that’s been rendered smaller by the internet.
Finally, family, too, past and present are important in the AntipodeanSF equation. I’ve spent many a late night at the keyboard editing, publishing, and adhering to my self-imposed schedule. Thank you all for sticking with me and my notions.
Yes, I’m strange, dear reader. But so are you, for without you there’s nothing but vacuum-less void.
Enough.
Issue 300 is calling from the future, and it’s bound to be a wild, wily, woolly ride.

The publication of Issue 200 simultaneously marks 17 solid years of publication for AntipodeanSF online. That's a bunch of speculative flash fiction, from a bunch of antipodean and podean authors. And it's cause for celebration. Of course!
We'll have 22 authors with 22 new pieces of fiction, and another "flashback" piece of fiction from each author, in most cases their very first contribution to the magazine/radio show. That's another 22 stories...
Come along and get reading online on Sunday Feb 1. And please post your comments to the AntiSF Facebook Page! Or send them direct to me for inclusion -- Nuke (editor)
