I hope you have Gen John Monash on your list to do a show about. Plenty of time, maybe later around the time of the Gallipoli retreat or Hindenburg Line offensive.

It's taken years to recover from my last stint at podcasting but it's time to return, relearn and grab my piece of the digital landscape. Nice to be back :)

After 3 years I’m back again with the re-start of Your Story.

Thanks Des.
As I mention in the audio it's gently, gently, climbing back into the saddle. One day a week at the moment, but at least I'm moving forward in the digital world again. :)

The clarity of information…
The continued unfolding of reality…
The unimaginable suffering and death…
The passion with which it's told…
This is an amazing channel!

+The Great War  It's hard to learn the complex history of great events such as WWl in hindsight, as the complexity over the years get too confusing. I've often thought how would it be to live through those eras and see the unfolding in real time but then we don't know the full story as much is in the background or confused with misinformation. So 100 years later we get to live through the reality of the week by week accounts in real time, with all the background information added in to explain why events happened. The drip feeding of real time explanation also enables us to absorb the complex issues rather being overwhelmed by the deluge which comes with traditional education on these topics.

Everyone's favourite astronaut +Samantha Cristoforetti reminds us of the importance of #TowelDay with a reading from Douglas Adams.

This is the single event which caused Australia to look at it's relationship with Great Britain. The first conflict we joined and to have so many casualties so quickly caused a shock to the culture. Having just recently become an independent Federation (1901) but still holding onto many of our colonial attitudes, over coming months and years we realised that it was time to go our separate ways. By WW2 we joined the fracas as allies and not the servants of the British Empire.

+Ian Kath All Australians who fought in WW1 were volunteers and therefore, none were compelled to go as 'servants' of the British Empire. A large portion of the Australians who fought in WW1 were actually born in Great Britain, an even larger portion though not born in Great Britain had parents born in Great Britain. That was their relationship to Great Britain then. I doubt very much those men who fought and died would share your modern day interpretation that though they volunteered they were really servants but didn't realise it. .

Talking of Japan I'd like to hear about Asian societies, pre European involvement. What were the Chinese up to for a thousand years, Japan when it was a closed society and other amazing cultures that lead to things like Angkor Wat.
