Powerwall is a big bet, "If energy can be sold back to the grid at a high price, it will be more attractive than energy storage for homeowners with rooftop solar."
The benefits and risks of being tied to rooftop solar.

The company buying your solar energy has a monopoly and no particular incentive to price competitively, especially when depressing prices keeps you more dependent on their infrastructure and service. If we had an efficient market for surplus home solar energy, I think we'd see more emphasis on artificial hydro (e.g., Switzerland is a battery; they create artificial lakes in the mountains so they can pump water up when energy is cheap).

Sharing some (not) fun we had yesterday at Klout with the leap second
So yesterday was the 6/30/2015 leap second day and boy was it (not) fun. We’ve had previous leap second events and they also were (not) a barrel of laughs. The last one triggered a myriad of Java Virtual Machine process malfunctions, especially amongst services that depended on Zookeeper ...

That you got in: great! That we released to the app store without catching the GPS timeout fail: I'm sending myself to go sit in the corner!

I could maybe be happy with a solution which says we wait until the difference is 15 mins. After all, the only thing we're preserving with leap seconds is some approximation to local noon, and that's almost always adrift because timezones are at least an hour wide.
The leaps would then be so rare that it's akin to saying we just don't need them.
In fact why not: by the time local noon has drifted by an hour, people will be used to the idea that it's drifted.

It's the little things that sneak up on you and can hurt the most, because they seem so... little. Updated configuration management didn't pin the version of java, search system goes nuts, almost all had to be abandoned in a migration to a newly provisioned infra. Fascinating.
Summary. On Tuesday, October 29, we experienced an outage on our primary Elasticsearch cluster in our US East region. Up to 20% of our customers in this cluster experienced a total downtime for 24 hours. The remaining 80% experienced several windows of downtime during which we performed ...

A Fascinating infographic showing the distribution (and spread) of Flickr & Twitter geotagged posts. Not only beautiful, but very telling! Obviously, there are fewer Flickr photos on the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. because... there's just less cool stuff to photograph over there :)
Infographic Of The Day: Using Twitter And Flickr Geotags To Map The World. There's two subtle forces being mapped here: One, the differing ways that internet companies spread. And two, the vast di...

Why is +1 (things liked on a page) and 'buzz' (things liked in google reader) separate headings in Google+ ? Weird.

You can be non-plussed or extra buzzed. It's your choice. ;-)
