Smart drama? Perceptive drama i prefer
Movies are getting a lot more personal, and it could mean that you never sit through a bad film again. BBC researchers are developing a program that can tailor a film to suit its viewers’ personalities.

Inspired by the recent remarkable advances of deep neural networks in computer vision, we have recently launched an improved YouTube "thumbnailer" algorithm that uses neural networks to automatically select the best image to showcase a video’s content. Head over to the Google Research blog to learn how it works.

Geek with a passion for emerging grass-roots disruption
Ian Forrester is a well known and likeable character on the digital scene in the UK. He has now made Manchester, UK his home, where he works for the BBC's R&D north lab. He focuses on open innovation and new disruptive opportunities via open engagement and collaborations with startups, early adopters and hackers.

His current research is into the area of Future Narrative and Storytelling, with a technology he calls Perceptive Media. A new kind method of broadcasting, which pairs the best of broadcast with the best of the internet to create an experience like sitting around a camp fire telling stories. Interestingly this also crosses over into internet of things too.

A non-traditional background into interaction design which he has crossed over with development using XML & Semantic web technologies. He tends to live a few years in the future, and has a excellent eye for spotting the crossover opportunities of open technologies and business models. By watching what hackers and early adopters are doing to scratch their own itches now. Something he did successfully as the leader for BBC Backstage for 4 years.

Previously a founder of the group, social geek events, including London Geekdinners, BarCampLondon, Hackday, Mashed, Edinburgh TV Un-Festival and Over the Air. Ian has a proven track record for making the unthinkable happen.

I use to visit this place a long time ago when there were still swatters and no hotel. It always stuck in my mind as a great venue due to the high floor, large open air balcony and cocktail menu. I visited recently (2016) to find a hotel and cleaned up look. The main points which kept it in my mind were still there but now its even more neat. Canvas is a great place for drinks and I look forward to trying their food menu one day

The best restaurant experience for someone with an allergy. The kitchen was willing to change any part of the menu to suit my difficult allergies. Excellent service even on a busy evening. Also put the bill in the middle of the table instead of assuming the man would pay the bill.

Colleague recommended it while in Amsterdam for work. Described it as uncomplicated dutch food. It turned out to be a great dining experience, with excellent service for my many allergies and all at a reasonable price. If I was in Amsterdam with friends in the future, I certainly would recommend going back. Little tip... climb to the top of the stairs and see the view in the top room.
