A London Underground station worker blogs on why he's joining the tube strike later today.
I’m a ticket officer and station assistant on London Underground, and I’ll be taking 24 hour strike action this evening alongside members of my union, TSSA, and unions representing other tube staff, ASLEF, RMT and Unite. We’re in dispute over the move to all-night running at weekends, starting in September. That’s not because we oppose all night trains at weekends. They’re a great idea, and will give London a real boost. What we oppose is the way...

Public support for fracking in the UK has fallen to an all-time low, according to the government’s latest survey of public attitudes  towards energy of various kinds – ranging from shale gas and new nuclear to renewables. A clear majority support investment in carbon capture technology. DECC Energy Minister Amber has favoured an all out…

The Warrior Challenge

Could you eat this?

Well, one restaurant chain has it on the menu.

Chips on the side as well.

I reckon there is enough there to keep my stomach full for a week.
And if that whopper does not tickle your fancy, why not try a Chicken BLT on sweet waffles instead of bread?

Leaders of ten leading UK charities concerned with protection of the environment have written to the Prime Minister, alarmed that “early policy choices being made are running counter to the strong intentions you outlined in your pre-election climate pledges and in your manifesto, to “accelerate the transition to a competitive, energy efficient low carbon economy.”…

Meatballs, Spuds and Beans

Easy to make for one
Plenty of tomato sauce in this Meatballs, Spuds and Beans dinner that we invented. Well sort of but not really. Tasty dinner and easy to prepare.

US says 'trade trumps safety'
I have blogged here several times about the possible effects on health and safety of the proposed free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States - the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). According to the European TUC the agreement could have “enormous implications” for workers regarding employment policy, social security, environmental protection, occupational health and safety protection and the protecti...

What do Pitta and SurveyMonkey have in common?

Well the staff there might be partial to some pitta bread but, other than that, there is no connection. There is a business point to this though so please keep reading.

Over the past week or so I have had a few requests to complete surveys that are hosted by SurveyMonkey. I have no problem with that because the sites asking are ones that I know and trust.

The fun part is that these come from big organisations who proceed to send you to the SurveyMonkey site rather than a page on your own.

My survey is just a bit of fun but, if you choose to do it, you will see that you are always on my site. That way a visitor seeing the survey may click on something else on the site but, if they are already on a different site, they may well just close the tab and head elsewhere.

It's very easy to do as well as it is just a copy and paste.
Took me about 20 minutes to create that page and it would have been less without a rather dumb typo on my part

So I fail to understand why big businesses use the service yet send people away from their own page.
How do you like your pittais a survey from Experimental Chefs. Only four questions and it is purely intended as fun so click on over and complete.

Sausages, Chips, Yorkshires and Peas

Add on gravy plus a little salt and maybe some pepper for a great dinner.

Grab a slice or two of buttered bread to mop up the leftover gravy
Great dinner of Sausages, Chips and Peas with a good amount of gravy to finish things off. Add yorkshire puddings as well to make a more sunstantial meal.

Occupation
Business Consultant, Author, Recipe writer and Computer Programmer
Skills
One of my main skills is an ability to nudge people in the right direction. I may know part of the answer to the question that they ask so I will respond with what I do know. That then gives the person asking the question something to think on and research further. They then find the answer that they need and learn in the process. Sometimes I will even give a partial answer so people asking have to look further for themselves. That is the way to learn
